Actress is near the finish line to win part

According to today's Variety, Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry is very close to becoming Warner Bros. newest CATWOMAN. As recently as last month The Hollywood Reporter was saying that it was Nicole Kidman who was the frontrunner for the part but it appears she's no longer in the running.

Variety reports that the movie studio has been in talks with Berry for the past two weeks and she's very interested in taking the role. The script, by John Rogers, John Brancato and Mike Ferris, reimagines Batman's feline nemesis as a new character who receives cat-like powers after a near-death experience.

Berry's no stranger to comic books; her next appearance will be as Storm in X-MEN 2 opening on May 2.
