I hate to break it to Hollywood, but the computer technology genie has been out of the bottle for some time now so unless we turn our society into a police state there won't be much they can do about it.

Here is the official Anti-Piracy trailer for John Dies at the End. It is currently available for viewing on demand. Again it looks to have all the things we here at Mania want from our movies.
The Plot: It's a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No- they can't.
The film is directed by Don Coscarelli (Bubba Ho-Tep) and features Paul Giamatti, Chase Williamson, Rob Mayes, Clancy Brown, Glynn Turman, Doug Jones, Daniel Roebuck, Jonny Weston, Fabianne Therese.
John Dies at the End arrives in theaters January 25th, 2013.

I think this looks great! It kind of reminds me of Slither, and I loved that film. Humor and gore go hand-in-hand.
Great humorous teaser. They are well aware the genie's out of the bottle but they are just having fun with an obvious fact.
I know this is based on a book by a regular writer for Cracked and its plot certainly answers complaints about movies with no new ideas.
Ummm, so everyone is just going to download this, right? Anti-piracy is such a joke, almost as laughable as the war on drugs.
People on this thread seem to be mistaken about what anti-piracy is about. The goal is not for 100% elimination of piracy. Everyone agrees that this is crazy and impossible. The goal is to reduce the amount of piracy in such a way as to maximize profits (which includes the cost of anti-piracy efforts). So if you have to spend a lot of money to reduce piracy, and that has no (or a negative) effect on sales, that is a bad business decision.
Studies have shown that the number 1 best way to reduce piracy is to improve access to people who want to pay for your product. This is what has lead to latest fad of simultaneous releases.
Of course, all such measures require a combination of carrot and stick. So there has to be some enforcement. But this does not mean Big Brother scanning everyone's drives. You just have to shut down sites that have no take-down policy, so that getting a seed becomes such a hassle that you might as well pay for it. The goal is to remove the temptation for casual piraters, not the hard core.
One thing that Hollywood could do if they weren't so short-sighted, and that is to accept movie re-edits like Star Wars Revisited for example and package that with the other studio edits that they have. There would be a lot of money to be made on that front, but that would only happen if they had any foresight.
so judging by the comments me and two others actually watched right?
I think it's a smart idea, let people that want to see it, see it. Theaters or Home dosen't matter. I hate having to wait months. I hate todays movie experience, I ordered a small coke and got what growing up was a large. I ended up spending $25 on a Medium Popcorn, a ticket and a Coke. I could have stayed at home rented the movie bought a coke, and some popcorn at the grocery store and came in under 10 bucks after tax, and really the experience would have been better, sure I don't have a sound system, I also don't have the idiot kids, the long lines, the sticky floors or the bad viewing angles, and I don't have to wear pants.
I hate pants let me rent right away.
I just downloaded this and watched it and it's fucken awesome. I highly recomend it to all maniacs.
the title is misleading..........he dies near the beginning.........hehe......so good......
