What They Say

The Review!
Providing for two very disparate kinds of shows on the release, Clouds of Wind goes back to the eighties for its adult fun.

For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. The original mixes for these must have been mono as they are very center channel based with the dual outputted stereo mix. The track is clean and essentially problem free but it's a very full sounding track that's a bit low in general but otherwise pretty serviceable considering its age. Dialogue is clean and clear throughout and we no problems with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.

Originally released as two separate OVA titles, the transfer for these shows are presented in their original full frame aspect ratio. The shows look little better than VHS transfers to DVD in combination with the age of the materials so what we get here is a below average presentation where there's lots of mosquito noise and shifty colors. There's a general fuzziness and lack of clarity and detail that really doesn't let the show really look good in either of the two episodes here. Even worse, the show is basically a dump of the original Japanese in that it has the original mosaics used on it. Colors look ok but with the problems of the noise they're always feeling like they're alive and moving.

In all the years of buying DVDs and hearing stories from others, this is the first time I've actually had a keepcase that truly stank. The design of the artwork on the other hand is pretty decent as it uses character images from the first OVA on here with a close-up of the lead female and a shot in the lower corner of the beginning of an intimate moment. The back cover provides more shots from the show and a smaller shot of the front cover image that holds more detail better. The rest of the package is completely lacking in anything useful other than the run time. No language or technical features are listed, no production information, nothing. There's less here than on most bootlegs. And obviously, no insert is included.

The menu layout here is painfully simple with the two episodes listed along the left with an image button while clips from the Hospital Workers episode play behind it with a blue filter. That's all there is for selections although a bit of instrumental music does play along to it as well. The episodes do load fast for what little that matters.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
One of the first two titles from Asian Erotic Animation, which as it turns out is nothing more than the new name that Filmco is apparently using for their adult anime titles, is a complete disaster from start to finish. With the completely useless packaging and presumably minimal information provided to retailers, there was no way to know beforehand that the title provides nothing in terms of translation. All we get here is a Japanese language track, mosaiced video and no subtitles. Adding insult to injury is that the transfers look little better than a VHS tape burned via RCA connections on a cheap home burner someone got for Christmas.

And while insult has been added to injury, with this release it's been spit upon if my guess is right. The Clouds of Wind episode here is actually an episode from the Fencer of Minerva series as released previously by Central Park Media. As of this writing I don't know if they've lost their license for it or not. But at least we know unmosaiced video does exist for it. But the chances of this being a bootleg of some sort rises even more just by seeing that. The second episode, Hospital Works, doesn't look familiar but the hospital based shows tend to blur over the years.

With no translations and one of the episodes being something we've already seen, there's little to really say about this release other than it's worth avoiding at all costs. The quality of this release is just abysmal and you'll simply be wasting your time with this. Everything about it is counter to what's being released today and feels like it's twenty years out of date in its style. I'd expect this from a bootlegger selling it at a comic convention like I used to see in Boston back in the 80's, not from any sort of company today.

In Summary:
Utter trash. Save your money and sanity and avoid it at all costs.
