Clowes, Rudin mounting a BACKYARD RESISTANCE

True-life tale sparked movie based on youngsters' Indiana Jones dreams

The dream that three Mississippi teens had back in the summer of 1982 isn't over yet. More than 20 years ago Chris Strompolos, Eric Zala and Jayson Lamb saw RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK as kids and were so overwhelmed by Steven Spielberg's adventure film that they decided to attempt a shot-for-shot remake of the movie using their parents camcorders and whatever tools they could find. Even though it took seven years before their "film" was complete, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK: THE ADAPTATION was completed in 1989.

The trio's story eventually wound its way into the pages of Vanity Fair as a feature-length article about their endeavor of creativity. It was at that time movie producer Scott Rudin saw the story and, sparked with his own creative idea, contacted the three. He eventually purchased the rights to their life stories, with the intent of making a movie about their adventures in filmmaking. Now that film has taken two big steps forward: comic book creator-turned-screenwriter Daniel Clowes (GHOST WORLD) has been hired to turn the material into a screenplay titled BACKYARD RESISTANCE.

Ironically, Rudin's deal is with Paramount Pictures, which means the BACKYARD film will come from by the same studio that released all three Indiana Jones films.
