Last October, the trades and Mania reported that the comic COBALT 60, originally created by Vaughn Bode, was picked up by Univeral Pictures. Mark Bode, Vaughn's son, contacted Mania to let us know the deal was not done and nothing had been signed. But Mark has now followed up to let us know that it is finally official and Universal has obtained the feature rights.
The comic was created by in 1968 and lasted for only one story. Vaughn never carried on the character due to his untimely death in 1975. In the 1980s, Mark revived the characters and apprentice Larry Todd wrote a story based on Vaughn's cast of characters. Together Mark Bode and Larry Todd flushed out a full story that became the 150-page graphic novel.
COBALT 60 takes place in a post apocalyptic world inhabited by mutants and fantastical creatures, and follows the masked hero Cobalt 60, who embarks on a quest to avenge his parents, who were murdered by the evil Strontium 90.
Zack Snyder contacted Mark about the rights in order to make all this happen. Zack has followed the strip since he was in film school. Zack & Debra Snyder and Mark Bode will executive produce.
