With shooting getting ever closer to starting in May, it looks like the final negotiations are underway for who will be playing a SHIELD agent alongside Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in quite a few Marvel films coming up. Cobie Smulders (who we adore in How I Met Your Mother) essentially has a lock on the still unnamed SHIELD agent which will make their first appearance in the Avengers film. Similar to the deal that Jackson has with Marvel Studios, it will be a nine-picture deal that has her in a supporting role for the character. Smulders would be joining Jackson alongside Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) in the Joss Whedon directed big picture that's set for a May 4, 2012 release.

Excellent! Cobie rocks! Too bad she didn't get the gig with Joss Whedon's WW, but this will do nicely.
If that guy from The New Adventures of Old Christine can play a solid SHIELD agent, then Cobie will knock it out of the park!
