Details of JJ Abrams' 1-18-08 Emerge - Sep 01, 2007 - 10:47pm
Wow... seeing a lot of negative opinions about story aspects and filmmaking techniques for a film that ISN'T EVEN OUT YET. Come on, people! You all bitch and whine and moan that "There's no original ideas in Hollywood anymore!" and "It's all just remakes and sequels!" and then a film that looks original and that isn't a sequel comes along and you bitch and whine about that too!! Fuckin' A, get your head in order! Either you're on the bus, or you're off the bus. If you're on it, then be on it and keep your ass behind the yellow line because if you start wagging your tongue in rude noise, that's when you get left out in the middle of the desert with just an old copy of Cinescape. If you're off it, your opinion doesn't matter sweet F.A....

Zuda and the Future of Web Comics - Jul 11, 2007 - 03:36pm
I agree with Sinister's statement about DC and its nearly non-existent level of quality nowadays. For, well, most of the 90's, DC was the perfect counterpoint to Marvel. DC was more provocative and experimental while Marvel was busy putting out a lot of flash-over-substance, whiz-bang comics that were motivated merely by the money factor. I stopped collecting for a good portion of the 90's (mostly because I was in high school/college and just didn't have the cash) but when I did finally come back, I had a lot of DC on my pull list and a few Marvels. Now it's the exact reverse. Marvel continues to extend their talent list and revive some of their dying characters (I was almost done with Cap until the Rieber/Cassaday run and ESPECIALLY Brubaker's run... and I couldn't have cared less about HULK a few years back, but with the last few arcs, I'm hooked!) while DC seems to be flailing about trying to do something about the waining interest in their titles. I was so in love with the idea of Grant Morrison writing a BATMAN series which is what I felt that title needed... but that has been a little lackluster (however ninja man-bats kick ass!) and ditto with Richard Donner working on ACTION COMICS. I did really start to get into Allan Heinberg's work on WONDER WOMAN, but that came to a screeching halt when scheduling issues arose. I have now only 3 or 4 DC titles on my pull list whereas with Marvel, the list seems to be growing at an exponential rate. And as far as the yearly mega-crossovers are concerned, CW kicked the living hell out of IC and 52. As far as the DC line of Essentials-style reprints is concerned, it's all about the character. Seeing the Marvel characters from their beginnings of course is a little dated but still is terribly entertaining. Now, DC... you really have to want to know about the characters' exploits during the almost cringe-worthy silliness that was the mid-60's in order to get these books. The only DC title I've gotten so far from that line has been the HOUSE OF MYSTERY reprints. Great stuff.

Early Glimpse of WOLFMAN - Jul 03, 2007 - 01:48am
This is quite possibly one of the most moronic pictures circulating the net right now. It's like someone said, "Hey, let's get a pic of a celeb driving in their car to a set!" Who gives a shit? Really? I appreciate the fact that he's going to be in a WOLF MAN film, but this has little to nothing to do with the actual film, and not much more to do with the actor... other than making him look like the bassist from ZZ Top. I don't even this this pap is at AICN... Mania is in trouble.
