Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men) are heading back behind-the-camera for another Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, reports Variety. The brothers will be adapting a murder mystery tale, based on Michael Chabon's novel The Yiddish Policeman's Union. The Coens will co-write the screenplay, direct and produce alongside their partner Scott Rudin. Production will begin after they wrap up their current project, A Serious Man for Focus Films.

Plot Concept: A contemporary scenario where Jewish settlers are about to be displaced by U.S. government's plans to turn the frozen locale of Sitka, Alaska, over to Alaskan natives. Against this backdrop is a noir-style murder mystery in which a rogue cop investigates the killing of a heroin-addicted chess prodigy who might be the messiah.

I can't believe they're going to let the Coen Brothers make another movie after that atrocity that they called "No Country for Old Men". Psyche! Coen Brothers? I'm there. I don't care if they're directing the next Carebears or Pee Wee Herman movie.

MrJaw...It was a good movie but it pisses me off that no one has even given Paul thomas Anderson the credit he deserves for There will be blood...I honestly thought that was a much better movie than No Country for old men and it feels as though money is being passed around so that No Country get's the tops in every award being passed out this year and it ridiculous...I hope the academy realizes this and does the right thing...

I like the concept of this,,,,anytime i hear the words Herion Addicted, I am in...lol,,,,I think the Cohens have a much better track record then PT Anderson....that does not negate the fact that There Will Be Blood is a great movie, but how many movies has PT Anderson made? Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love? All of them were ok, but not great. That's just my opnion.

Mlaforcer, I`m giving Anderson credit. There Will Be Blood was great, but I honestly think that it had mostly to do with the acting rather than Anderson`s directing. He is a good director and the scenes were pretty perfect, but the acting is what holds the movie together for me. Its in contrast with No Country, where the acting was very good but to me the cinematography and sort of strangely gritty directing style really pushed through to the surface.

Yeah, I don't care who wins what really. I'm sure they're the only ones who care, and if I was them, I wouldn't. I"m not big on awards or fanfare myself. I'd be more along like Fiona Apple and Pearl Jam on the note. Who wins what doesn't effect my enjoyment of the movie later on and if I haven't seen a movie I don't go..."Oh, this movie won...blah, blah, blah" or "Oh, look this actor won/was nominated an Oscar". I loved both movies. Although, maybe I think it should have been clearer that there were twins in There Would Be Blood because that confused the hell out of me. They might have because I dozed off for a little, little bit during the flick. (I was up twenty plus hours working, drinking, working, then going to a movie without sleep inbetween anything).

It was a great novel, and with the Cohen bros making it, it will be a great movie to.

They are surprisingly glossing over the "genre" portion of the film's plot: the story is set in an alternate universe where Jews settled in Alaska rather than Israel after WWII.

Just when I think Hollywood is done for and can't put out (he he... I said "put out") anything original, along come the Cohen Bros.

Just because I'm picky, Sitka is not "frozen". It's about 50 miles from where I live and they're soaking wet, but far from frozen.

I love the Brothers Coen. Brilliant filmmakers, really. As for "There Will Be Blood"... I loved it. But I think it was thirty minutes too long, and could have been just as powerful and delivered the same sentiments without the sub-plot about his long-lost brother. Really, that whole sub-plot went nowhere. It didn't tell us anything about Daniel that hadn't already been made clear, and it certainly didn't add anything to the film -- except time. Apart from that, though, I loved every frame of that film. It wouldn't bum me out if it won over "No Country" at all, no matter how biased I am for the Coen Bros. I'm just glad it was such a good year for cinema, and not just for movies.
