Joel and Ethan Coen are in talks to make their next project a black comedy for Universal called INTOLERABLE CRUELTY.

Meanwhile, word has it that the Coen brothers are looking to have George Clooney come on board the production, with whom the pair worked with on OH, BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU. In addition, there are rumblings that Julia Roberts is being sought for the female lead.

The film, which has a script by Robert Ramsey and Matthew Stone that had been rewriiten by the Coens, will tell the darkly comedic story of a Hollywood divorce lawyer who becomes the target of a client's ex-wife. Amid the mayhem, these two start to fall in love.

Should the brothers sign on, Ethan Coen will produce the film with Brian Grazer, Jim Jacks and Sean Daniel.
