Well, it looks like there will be two very different tales of Sherlock Holmes by two different studios. One is the Warner Bros. led drama that Anthony Peckham has scripted and Guy Ritchie is set to direct. No casting announcements have been made for this project.

The other, judging by today's news, is going to be vastly different. Variety's reporting that Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen will be teaming up once again for the Columbia Pictures-led adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. This version of the property is getting scripted by
Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) and will be produced by Judd Apatow and Jimmy Miller. Cohen, Ferrell, Apatow and Miller previously teamed up for Talladega Nights.

Cohen will be detective Sherlock Holmes while Ferrell plays his partner Watson in the comedic take of the classic property.

Its like they just paste Judd Apatow`s name to every comedy that come sout these days. The man is everywhere. He`s kind of saturating the market if you ask me. I like his stuff but audiences might get a little tired of it after awhile. I think I rather the Guy Ritchie version as long as he doesn`t screw it up. I want a more serious tone to Sherlock Holmes. Its too easy to go funny with that type of movie.

I can pop in Talladega Nights every day if i wanted. "It's the fastest who gets paid. It's the fastest who gets laid." "Dear, 3 pound, 6 ounce baby Jesus." "Chip, I'll come at you like a spider monkey." It's golden and no one can tell me different.

The success of either one is going to depend on which one comes out first. Obviosly, the Cohen and Ferrell one is way ahead. I don't think anybody would be intested in seeing a comedic version then a what sounds like a serious version directed by Ritchie down the road.

Apatow, Ferrell and Cohen are the worst people to get involved in anything resembling Sherlock Holmes.

Ferrell was good in "Stranger Than Fiction," and just okay in "The Producers." The rest isn't worthy of mention.

Apatow, on the other hand, hasn't yet made one movie I was interested in seeing. The man doesn't know comedy. I watched "40 Year Old Virgin" at a friend's request, sat down, and turned it off halfway through the movie. It really was all downhill after the bit with Stormy Daniels.

As for the more serious tale, I don't know about Guy Ritchie's take on the classic, but by definition it'll be better than this trash.

This sounds like it has the potential to either be absolutely hilarious or quite lame.

Why are Apatow, Ferrell and Cohen the worst people to get involved in Sherlock Holmes if they are going for comedy?

If you didn't care for Freaks & Geeks, Undeclared, 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up or any of all the other stuff the man has produced then Batman save you.

Will there be room for both movies?

I agree with Flint,it could be hilarious!!! or quite lame.

Ferrell sucks. He single handedly ruined Wedding Crashers. The dude almost always plays the same moronic character that I have grown to hate. I won't go any farther because I'm sure there are many who love his sense of humor and will think I am blind for not "getting it".

I'll be seeing the Anthony Peckham / Guy Ritchie version. I love Sherlock Holmes and don't want to see a mockery of it. Now watch I'll see the trailer for this comedy version and laugh my butt off and then in turn eat my words.

I was just thinking yesterday how good young Sherlock Holmes was and how I wish there would have been a sequel.

I might be interested on both. Without having seen Tropic Thunder I'm already willing to give Cohen the benefit of doubt.

And Ritchie, well I think he's way overdue for a good film. It's already been 7-8 years since Snatch. Though I must say I'm looking forward to Rocknrolla.

Ferrell to me is only good in small doses. As a lead he usually loses me along the way, but for some reason I keep believing that sooner or later he'll get the right role and get the job done.

You really think Ferrell sucks? I was really disappointed with Semi-Pro, possibly one thee most un-funny movies I've ever seen. It was so bad that I'll be renting Step Brothers. I agree that he needs a new character but he's made me laugh, HARD, too many times to write him off just yet.

Young Sherlock holmes was a great flick.

Semi-Pro was weak but you can't rent Step Brothers cause of it, StepBrothers looks 2 funny.

Dr. Gregory House = Sherlock Holmes, nuff said!
