Cohen Unveils Jet Li as THE MUMMY

Rob Cohen has once again updated his blog for THE MUMMY:TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR, this time giving the online media their first look at Jet Li in his upcoming film. In the snapshot provided, it looks like Li is about to deliver some high-flying kicks towards Brendan Fraser. Cohen also talked a little soundtrack details in his new blog..

Today, I shot Jet Li on his black stallion riding into battle in his jade armor. He looked nothing short of an Emperor. He has been totally professional and warm to me and the entire crew, like the prince he truly is.

As to the music: guys, trust me. Randy and I have done two classic scores (DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY and DRAGONHEART) that continue to be used in trailers and commercials a decade and a half later. This will be an original score with new themes, played by the London Symphony Orchestra recorded at Abbey Road Studios. There will nothing “synth paddy” about it. It will be massive, thematic, and pulsing. I have great respect for Al Silvestri but this is a new, re-booted “Mummy” and it will have the score to match.

Here's some flavor of the mano a mano Brendan Fraser/Jet Li fight. Out here in Tianmo, there is no internet (there is no indoor plumbing!) so it takes some time in ‘dial-up’ back at the hotel. Be patient. I am trying to serve you up something special next July 30th, which takes the other 23 ½ hours a day!

Bye-Bye for now….

Remember this one time when Jet Li said he would no longer take martial arts roles in films?

bjjdenver • Oct 23, 2007, 07:12pm •
No.

He said he would no longer be making martial arts historical epics ala Once Upon A Time In China.

axia777 • Oct 23, 2007, 07:17pm •
Yep, no more historical martial arts films. No more martial arts? Yah right, that would be like asking some on like Gary Oldman to quit acting. Oh wait.....

This movie is shaping up to be good summer popcorn movie fun, which is exactly what it should be. Not to serious or dramatic, but full of good humor and action.

I don't know what it's shaping up to be, but he doesn't look like a mummy to me. Not that I've ever fought one.

almostunbiased, don't tell me you've never seen a Chinese mummy before :)
Let's remember this kind of movie is best to accept what's offered than question it. Otherwise you won't enjoy it as it's meant to be, a pure popcorn movie.
Oh, and these guys will quit only when their not offered any more roles. That talk of theirs is only to drive up their fee.

When did Rick change his name to Alex?

dragonrift • Oct 23, 2007, 09:17pm •
Hehe, yeah, looks like the put the name of his son up there instead of Rick. Good to know they don't have people checking up on their submissions before posting this stuff.

I've lost count how many mistakes I've found on their articles here, it's horrible.

I dunno i was kind of wondering if that was Brendan Frasier in that pic

Looks like Rick is about to get his ass kicked. Chinese mummy style!

I think the coolest thing in the movie will be showing the Terra Cotta soldiers come to life. But that`s it.

This is shaping up to be a great piece of fun cinema.
Randy Edelman's score for Dragon is a great piece of music. It is constantly used on other movie trailers, TV news reports and such.
