What They Say
Young catboy Cyan has found himself on one side of a huge territorial catfight against the beautiful Siam and her endless supply of gorgeous generals. Luckily, Cyan's not alone: He's allied with a cool cat gang called the Free Collars, and together they'll face terrifying car chases, bikini-filled beach brawls, and automated death in an unmanned sushi factory.

But then a battle breaks out within the gang itself when tough rocker-girl Char tries to force Scottie out of the group. Now Cyan finds his loyalties being tested. Will he choose Scottie - the girl he loves - or his friends and comrades-in-arms?

The Review
Cat people really love cats. They have soft fur that comes in all kinds of colors and patterns, cute little ears that need to be scratched, and sometimes a decent amount of upkeep. That's where volume two of Free Collars Kingdom picks up, with Scottie and her master going through cat maintenance. Shhhhhh! Don't tell Scottie she has to go to the vet for her shots. Now maybe Japanese cats are different than American cats because Scottie's master not only gives her a new outfit every few days but he also gives her a routine bath. I personally enjoy my skin so I give my cat baths with the pet wipes, but to each their own.

The first part of this volume is kind of like Scottie's own little side adventure. She tries on clothes, watches her master draw his manga, and even goes as far as getting a job to help raise funds for some improvements to Nyanman apartments. And of course the most important part of her day, keeping her ears from flipping up by avoiding stress. Scottie's pure cuteness would probably make her a really good employee, the only problem is Char and Siam are also working at the same shop. You can pretty much guess how good customer service is going to be when the employees are sworn enemies. Yeah, between the sexy Siam, next-door girl Char, and moe Scottie, all catgirl bases are covered.

Much like volume one, most of this volume continues to examine the character's otaku-ness while busting out Dragon Ball-like fight scenes whenever the Free Collars come into contact with Siam and her army. Not only that, but the author also shares plenty of info on the specific cat breeds of the different characters and there are plenty more cat related jokes, the neutering joke is a riot! Also, more baths with some kid actually taking a bath with Cyan and Scottie? Sheesh, somebody's got a death wish.

Siam is still my favorite character with her long hair, ample curves, and in your face attitude. Siam is still obsessed with taking Nyanman apartments from the Free Collars, but that doesn't mean she can't find time to meet her favorite manga-ka at an autograph signing. Of course, she has to fight the Free Collars to actually make it to the signing. Lucky for Siam she has a new 'Ultimate Cat Attack' to try out on Cyan.

Volume two covers all the basis for a comedic manga and adds a couple unusual ones. There's the working in a shop with pretty uniforms, coed bathing, the summer vacation trip to the beach, the high speed car chase scene, and finally the hottie dressed as a nurse trip to the veterinarian scene. The characters also develop a little. Cyan and Scottie's relationship turns a little more romantic, Cyan accepts his life as a stray but will always hold onto love for his master, and Char works out her deep seeded feelings toward humans. So far, the story continues to be a fun examination of what life might be like from the cat's point of view, but I don't know how the whole Wild Cat storyline is going to be wrapped up in only one more volume.
