Columbia Hires Two Writers to Adapt GOOSEBUMPS

Writing duo Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander are in negotiations to write the live-action big screen adaptation of the children's horror series Goosebumps for Columbia Pictures.  Neal Moritz and his Sony-based Original Film is producing as is Scholastic Entertainment's Deborah Forte. Karaszewski and Alexander are expected to close their deal this week. While straight-to-video versions of the R.L. Stine book series have been made, the project will mark the first feature adaptation of the series and could become a franchise for Columbia, which acquired the rights in May.

The "Goosebumps" series -- which comprises more than 50 books that often pay homage to classic sci-fi/horror movies such as Night of the Living DeadInvasion of the Body Snatchers as well as the twist endings of The Twilight Zone -- have grossed hundreds of millions for Stine and Scholastic, second only to the "Harry Potter" series. Stine recently published a new 12-book series, "Goosebumps in HorrorLand," and Scholastic plans to launch a video game in the fall.

Moritz has said he likely will cast youngsters for the leads and then include well-known actors in supporting roles, a la the "Potter" films.

I have read a few of these when I was younger and they were a quick and easy fun read. I am just curious, since there are so many and all independent of each other, how are they gonna make a movie out of this? Take the best selling one and make it, or try to combine a few of them? Well, if done right it could be a great "horror" movie for kids.

Damn. I think these books were around when I was a kid... Never read any, though. I was always partial to Alfred Hitchcock & the Three Investigators. Don't go getting any ideas, Hollywood! Leave them alone!

Why bother? The TV show was a pretty accurate adaptation of the books. Why bother with this? What's the point? When you can get an adaptation of almost every book already on DVD, from the TV show! Adapt something that hasn't been adapted! and STOP ADAPTING THE SAME LIKE 30 PROPERTIES OVER AND OVER AGAIN YOU HOLLYWOOD F***HEADS!

scholastic entertainment is fucking retarded they own so many different books and this is the one they want to bring to the big screen. How do they expect it to succeed when all kids want these days is Harry Potter, and Spiderwick. scholastic should have hired those cats to write a wheres waldo script that would be interesting. Maybe even get Depp to play him. If he isnt too busy playing the Riddler in the next batman movie.
