This is a wasteful enterprise. They should rather do a George Lucas to the original with remastering, new cutscenes, and udpdated special effects.

It seems that playing around (or learning) from death is a story that should be updated for modern audiences. Heat Vision reports that Columbia Pictures has renewed development in a Flatliners remake by tasking screenwriter Ben Ripley (Source Code) to flesh out a story. Based on the 1990 movie that starred Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon and Julia Roberts, the original's producer Further Films is on board the upcoming revision. Laurence Mark is also producing.
Plot Concept: The story centered on a group of medical students who bring subject themselves to deadly experiments in order to see if anything lies beyond the big sleep. The members of the group are then revisited by physical manifestations of childhood sins and are not sure if what they are facing is real or hallucinations.
Thanks to Calibur454 for the submission.

I don't see the reason for a remake. But another film in the series dealing with different characters and such could be good. But an actual remake itself seems pointless.
It is a new Kevin Bacon game. The 80's Bacon Remake (technically Flatliners was made in 90, but they still had mullets. I''m lumping this into the new Footloose.) What will be the ultimate is when he stars in a remake of his own film.
Yea I really wish hollywood would leave classics like this one alone. It was a great one for its time and I enjoyed it. I have to agree with fallensbane as well- have a sequel with origional cast members making cameo appearances and that could work.
I keep waiting and dreading for them to announce a Hackers reboot. SIGH.
I was thinking just the other day that some dip in hollywood would try remaking this. The original is great and I will not be going to see this in protest of all the remakes that have been spat out.
To be honest, I thought Julia Roberts was slumming for Sutherland to be in Flatliners. I don't hold it up as a classic, but it does seem to have a lot of supporters.
Inner its more of a cult classic thats true enough because of all the big stars that were in it- kiefer julia kevin are now really big stars
It just proves that hollywood is too stupid to let original things be made in hollywood. Just because the fade right now is to remake any 70's or 80's tv show or movie, it is going to die out just like the comic movies will. So let's do something original please!!!!! UGH!
Loved the original. Don't really see any reason to remake it, but whatever. As long as they don't screw the pooch I guess it could be pretty good.
