The Comic Con panel exhibit for next year's INCREDIBLE HULK and it's time to give some highlights passed from our maniac scooper, "Daforce".

Edward Norton (Bruce Banner/Incredible Hulk) rewrote the screenplay along with director Louis Letterier to fit their visions as they saw it for the character. They made it a keypoint to bring up the old tv show when talking about the creating process.

Big addition to the Hulk from Norton's rewrite....He says character Leonard "Doc" Samson would be in the movie, and that they were actually going to mention other Marvel superheroes (by name) in the movie. It looks like Norton wants the different franchises to be linked better than they have been in recent years.

Norton said: "I came into this and wrote the screenplay. I was a Marvel kid. I had subscriptions to a lot of Marvel comics. I loved the early incarnation of the Hulk and then the television show, and then in later years, where they took it in the Bruce Jones Return of the Monster series. I always felt like it was like one of those great contemporary myths. Comes right out of the tradition of Greek mythology, notion of suppression of your inner demon. Initial idea of starting from scratch and reconceiving the story as a mythic saga was really appealing to me and I liked the idea of the lonely fugitive aspect of it."

Kevin Feige (President of Marvel Studios) made it  a point to say this was a new beginning of the Hulk saga. This would confirm reports of the previous Hulk (2003) not being part of  the series in their mindsets going into the production.

There was no footage shown of the film itself for obvious reasons. Filming began only 2 weeks ago in Toronto.

Look for "easter eggs" in terms of the original tv Hulk, Bill Bixby.

Producer Gale Hurd made it a point to say we won't be getting a Hulk shaping in 3 different sizes.

"We have a Hulk who's not going to be three different sizes in this movie. I think everybody will be very happy about that."

Big thanks to Daforce for attending the events.

Wow! This news sounds really cool...I may actually see this one...I like Norton...he is a very gifted actor...lets hope his writing chops are on par with his thespian skills.

norton is a fantastic actor ... like spanners said "lets hope his writing chops are on par with his thespian skills."

norton seems to be pushing this project into the right direction with his (and other crew members) visions. but ang lee thought he was doing the character justice with the original hulk film and look how bad that movie was.

only time shall tell ... looking forward to this film

I guess I'm surprised her wrote the screenplay or rewrote. This will be interesting. I think Norton is a great actor. Hopefully he has great ideas for this character.

Sounds great. . .but, I really don't want to see a rehash of the tv show. While it was ok for what it was, it strayed too far from the mythology of the comic. The Hulk of the tv series was not so much a character as
a plot device. He would only show up as
needed, never spoke, and remained the same throughout the series' run. That said,
I am looking forward to this movie. There's
a lot of great talent involved. My big question is, will we finally get to hear those
immortal words, "HULK SMASH!"?

This is either the greatest news ever.... or the worste news in the world..... I'm not sure which, lets hope when they talk about the TV show they just mean the fugitive on the run idea.... causeas much as I loved that show as a kid, the painted Hulk was... lacking

Ugh, I hate it when the reference the TV show as inspiration. I agree Madmanic, I hope the only inspiration that came from that program was the fugitive on the run. I'd rather them be inspired by the actual comic. And, I agree...someone should have asked..."is the Hulk going to speak?"

I find this news a bit disconcerting in all honesty. I think Peter David's run on the Hulk really created a believable character by going into the psychology of Banner/Hulk. He created a character that was that much more human and one that we all could relate to on some level. Rather than just being some raging beast that runs around smashing things ("Hulk Smash"), David gave the character depth and motivation to the blinding rage that fueled the "hulk" monstrosity.

This report here suggests that Norton and the crew are doing away with any aspect of the film that would deal with the psychosis of Banner that allows for the existence of the Hulk. This is unfortunate. But, I unlike the majority, really appreciated Ang Lee's film. Granted, it could have done with a bit more action to liven things up, it still had depth and character. I was hoping this film would be along those lines with the Producers early on expressing the intent to making the film more action pack. But, let's not lose actual story depth just to create an explosive film. Christ, there's way too much of that out there now. Just look at all the garbage that came out this summer!

And personally, once I read that they were going to identify at all with the TV show, I lost all interest. The show sucked. Granted, I loved it when I was a kid, all of age 7, but watching it as an adult it is evident that the show was pure garbage just aimed at Hulk highlights intended to garner an audience so that the studio could bring in the advertising money.

I agree, Peter david took a very one dimensional character and created a mythos that still stands today... The tormented Bruce Banner, who always had a monster inside him, it just took a gamma bomb to bring it out, and I think Lee touched on that, however I also am a huge fan of the Return of the Monster. I think Marvel felt that Davids contribution was huge, but that Hulk was becoming mired in the mental struggle aspect, so in Return of the Monster they introduced a more cunning version, where they still touch on the struggle within, but stay more focused on Banner's fugitive life and the Hulks destructive impact (which of course had themes the tv show had as well)... If this is where weare headed I'm on board.

Three different sizes? Was there a size inconsistency in the last movie?

madmanic999 • Jul 29, 2007, 04:25pm •
jimmyp, in Ang Lee's Hulk, the Hulk would change in size depending on how angry he got... instead of the madder he got the stronger he got the madder he got the bigger he got, I think he maxed out at like 14 feet..... and as much as I liked the Hulk, even I couldn't get behind that one.... it just felt wrong. Now on the other side of that coin I do not want to see a 7 foot Hulk either, he should be between 8-9 feet, it makes him feel like more of a monster, and reguardless of what Marvel says, that is the way he has been drawn by every artist of the last two decades. They used to list him at 7 feet tall, That would mean that Shaq is taller, not very Monstrous, yet every artist drew him anywhere from 3 to 5 feet taller than any point of reference character he fought... I mean even the Gray Hulk that McFarlane drew (who was supposed to be smaller) dwarfed Spiderman and Wolverine. So whether they listed him as that big or not that is how, we all imagine him. I think Marvel lists him as being 7'10" now... I can deal with that.
