Image Comics co-founder and X-FORCE artist Rob Liefeld might be one of comics' most controversial figures but he still can command Hollywood's attention. Liefeld's latest project to sell in tinseltown is PLANET TERRY, a pitch that sold to New Line Cinema. Liefeld will make mid six-figures and upward of one million if the project gets a greenlight.
Described as a sci-fi comedy in the vein of LIAR LIAR or BRUCE ALMIGHTY (gee, I wonder if Jim Carrey's agent is getting a phone call today?) by Variety, the property sold to New Line before it even made its debut. Liefeld had planned on making PLANET TERRY an online comic strip just like his other idea, SHRINK! (which itself sold to Columbia Pictures as a possible vehicle for Jennifer Lopez).
Back when his star was very bright in the sky, Liefeld had set up a ton of projects around Hollywood, like THE MARK or DOOM's IV. None of them have born any fruit so far. The artist had disappeared from the comic book scene for a while but is now preparing to return with a new series featuring the superhero team he created when Liefeld originally broke away from Marvel Comics. Written by Mark Millar (THE ULTIMATES) and drawn by Liefeld, YOUNGBLOOD: GENESIS will be released later this summer.
