One of the bestselling indie comic books available is coming to the silver screen. Red Sonja, a sword-and-sorcery comic book from Dynamite Entertainment, has been green lit with a production budget north of $25 million.

Red Sonja was released on the big screen in 1985 starring Brigitte Nielson and Arnold Schwarzenegger. It will be remade by Millennium Films and Emmett/Furla.

"The first movie was not a good one -- all the more reason to remake it. It is a great character and a great brand," said Joe Gatta, Head of Millennium Films.

Personally, I don't think they could do any worse than the original.

The original is a guilty pleasure of mine. Cheezy? Hell yes. Entertaining/rewatchable? Clearly.

The first one was soooooo bad and Brigitte Nielson was just butt ugly. I like the "sword and sandal" genre, so the more of these movies the better. I can see a whole new line of remakes coming...Sword and Sorcerer, Beastmaster, Deathstalker, and Conan of course.

Ok, that's a great reason to remake a movie. They can't "do any worse than the original." I realize this was just the writer's commentary, but that often seems to be the thinking of movie producers these days. Gee, can't wait to see this one...

Always try and look on the bright side. In this case, the only bright side is the fact that the first movie was so bad, and they can only do better! ... I hope.

Im hijacking this thread for a brief momment.
By far the most important thing to happen today in the various realms of popular american art is the release of the new TOOL record.
Cinescape doesn't normally report on this thing, and Ive been excited about this for days, and can no longer contain myself.
Anyways, I picked up 10,000 days this morning, and....wow. This album is so complex and darkly beautiful. It is impactful and stirs the same feelings in me that I first felt when I heard Undertow. Lateralus, while great, just was not what I wanted during that period, which makes Days even more worth the 5 year wait.
Few things that we really look forward to live up to our expectations. I guess Im just grateful that this one did.
sorry again for being off-topic.

Killervile, it is a good album, I have not heard it yet, but looking forward to hearing it. I love TOOL they are such a talented band and I love their style of music.

Now to red sonja, I think the actress has to dress the part, she needs to be running around in a skimpy outfit kicking some but. Not that Electra thing, I wanna see skimpy.

"Not that Electra thing"

What about J Alba in Sin City. I really, really love that movie, but damn! Alba was playing a stripper! Make with some frontals for crying out loud! Or at least something scanty.
How many exotic dancers have y'all seen wearing pants?
whatgives73- buy 10,000 Days...NOW! youll dig it.

That original was bad... real bad. I don't think they could do worse. So maybe it will be a decent film.

Can anyone really fill that costume... and not without some surgery?

I swear to GOD, why don't they just rename this entire website MoviePoopShoot.com? Most of you are exactly the kind of mega-geeks that Kevin Smith was making fun of in Jay and Silent Bob Stike Back. That one dude had it right in comparing all of you to Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons.

You come on here, talk a lot of shit about what is getting ready to come out, talk about how it's going to be f***ing horrible in the worst possible way, and yet every Summer and Holiday season, you go and spend your $9.00 - $54.00 (depending on how many times you see it), helping make one of the movies you supposedly LOATH into one of the season's biggest blockbusters...then you come back here and talk about how bad it sucked.

If some of you weren't aware of how ridiculous you are, I'm sorry to have to be the one to open your eyes. Bad mouth "Red Sonja" all you want to, but if it's got a halfway hot chick running around in the kind of outfits that she wears in the comics, you know that you're ALL going to go see it, and then come back here and blast it. Just realize that you're ridiculous and retarded.
