COMIC-CON: We called it...STAR WARS: EPISODE III is REVENGE OF THE SITH

Today at the San Diego Comic Convention, at the Lucasfilm STAR WARS panel, the official title for EPISODE III was revealed to fans: REVENGE OF THE SITH. The title confirms what an industry insider first reported to us a year ago, back in June 2003, and what STAR WARS creator George Lucas meant when he said that the title had already been guessed by fans.

"For some time now, the naming of a new STAR WARS movie has taken on some special meaning among core fans, who love to take part in guessing games before a title is announced, and then engage in debate once it is," said Steve Sansweet, Director of Content Management and Head of Fan Relations for Lucasfilm at the panel. "Let the debates begin."

For a short time the working title of EPISODE VI was REVENGE OF THE JEDI before it was switched to RETURN OF THE JEDI, and now the final films in each trilogy share a connection. The now-revealed EPISODE III title alsoharkens to a line mentioned by Darth Maul in EPISODE I -- THE PHANTOM MENACE: "At last we shall have our revenge."

STAR WARS: EPISODE III -- REVENGE OF THE SITH will be released worldwide on May 19, 2005.
