Comic-Con Pitch: TEEN BOAT

By Rob M. Worley     July 20, 2004

We've arrived at the week of Comic-ConInternational 2004 in San Diego! Hollywood will be coming to the show, andComics2Film aims to help Hollywood find the good stuff.

Today, John Green of Crypticpress talks about "Teen Boat"!

Q: Describe "TEENBOAT" and its lead character, Teen Boat, in two sentences or less.

John Green: Teen Boat isa teenager who can transform into a boat. "Teen Boat" is the onlycomic that combines the ANGST of being a teen with the THRILL of being a boat!

Q: If you were to compare"TEEN BOAT" to a movie, TV show (or movies or TV shows) what would itbe?

John Green: Teen Boat isa bit of a tongue-in-cheek comedy. But it's also a high school drama of all thethings a teen with an extraordinary power goes through. It's kind like"Transformers," "Dawson's Creek," and "Spider-Man"all rolled into one. With great BOAT power comes great BOAT responsibility!

Q: Why do you think"TEEN BOAT" would translate to film/TV/animation?

John Green:  Ifyou've seen the comic you'd notice the art would translate very well toanimation already. But the stories are the kind that work on many levels. At thesame time the book is absurdly funny and serious social commentary. But it's notspecifically low brow (or high brow). There are jokes and gags that little kidswill get and adults would get on a different level.

Q: Why should movie folkscome by your Comic-Con booth?

John Green: 'Cause eachissue of "Teen Boat" (there are 5) is only 50 cents! You can't evenget a snack at the food court for that price! Cryptic Press will be at booth M12in the Small Press Pavilion.
