Comic-Con Pitch: Zapt! by Denton and Giffen

By Rob M. Worley     July 18, 2006

It's the week of Comic-Con! Here's the latest installment of COMIC-CON PITCH 2006, in which Comics2Film endeavors to connect indie comics creators with Hollywood producers.

Today Shannon Eric Denton returns to tell us about his all-ages sci fi manga ZAPT!

Q: Describe ZAPT! in two sentences or less.

ZAPT! by Shannon Denton, Keith Giffen

Shannon Denton (SD): ZAPT! debuts this month from TOKYOPOP/Harper Collins. Created by Eisner Winner Keith Giffen and critically acclaimed writer Shannon Eric Denton. THE PITCH: A young boy is inducted into the ranks of the Pan-Galactic Order Of Police, where, like it or not, he'll have to save Alien Races and outwit marauding Space Pirates...and he'll still have to be home in time for dinner. Being a kid is about to get a lot harder!

Q: If you were to compare ZAPT! to a movie or TV show what would it be?

SD: SpyKids and Goonies in tone. We've got the hi-tech and we've got the heartfelt. We've got the fun!

Q: Why do you think ZAPT! would translate to film/TV/animation?

SD: It's got all the action and comedy a person can take. Even though are setting can sometimes be fantastic the comedy and absurdity of the situation and the characters awareness of this grounds it.

Q: Why should movie folks seek you out at Comic-Con?

SD: Keith Giffen and I have a pretty good track record of creating propertiesthat Hollywood likes. Talk to Circle of Confusion. We get things going.

Q: How can folks find you at Comic-Con (please provide booth number and additonal contact info)?

SD: I'll be at the Komikwerks/Actionopolis booth 2302. Hope to see everyone there!
