REVIEW: THE DARK KNIGHT: Two-Disc Special Edition DVD

Worlds Finest DVD Report takes a look at the new release:

And while you can count on another release of this film down the line, I wouldn’t completely avoid this DVD. The content here, however small, is nice and will likely not be repeated in further releases. If you're able, purchasing both the DVD release and Blu-ray release is probably the best way to go for those who want to completely experience The Dark Knight in terms of presentation of the feature itself. Despite all their faults, they actually do compliment each other nicely. The Blu-ray presents the IMAX experience while the DVD provides the regular theatrical experience. And, given how this release is going to quite the popular item when it hits shelves, you can bet that you'll be able to purchase both for a very fair price. So with that being said, and after careful consideration, I’m still going to give this release a Recommended stamp despite my misgivings and overall disappointment with the release. It’s just that great of a movie, The Dark Knight easily being one of the best films this year, that I’d recommend picking up an underwhelming DVD release until we get the inevitable double-dip. The Dark Knight is a smart movie laced with an incredible script, superb acting, and spectacular characters, and it belongs in everyone’s home video collection.

REVIEW: WANTED 2-Disc Special Edition

Worlds Finest DVD Report renders judgment on the new Universal Home Entertainment release:

Overall, Wanted is a twisted and fun movie, one that will definitely rock your DVD system. While it doesn't exactly offer anything new in the story department, the visuals are really something to behalf here and, thanks to the crisp video transfer, everything is crystal clear here! While the movie undoubtedly looks better on Blu-ray, if you’re picking up the DVD, then you should be pleasantly surprised here. The content could be more thorough, but what we get isn’t anything to sneeze at. If you liked the film’s visual style, than the bonus features should be of interest. I am curious to see how many people will discover the film’s comic book roots when scouring through the bonus features here, especially since said roots were barely touched upon during the film’s theatrical promotion. Wanted is a visual stunner of a film that will tickle your funny-bone while absolutely blowing you away with its’ stunning and over-the-top visuals. It goes without saying that Wanted: 2-Disc Special Edition comes Highly Recommended.

Marvel's only going to waste your time, DC is on a role now I don't see any change in the forseeable future.

Darkknight2280 12/2/2008 7:34:12 PM

DC is on a role with what??..lol If ur talking about Anime..ur prolly right and most dont care. Marvel is killing in the right dept and thats rolling out great movies (Thats movies with an S). DC has 1 successful movie franchise out there right now and thats Batman, in myopinion the deepest character they have (and one of my favs of all time). Marvel has the perfect formula and they are and for the future OWN the comics to movies business!! (Iron man 1 2 3, Spiderman 1 2 3 4, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, The Avengers) DC has ALOT of catching up to do.

Indeed I was referring to animation. But leave us not forget the schlock Marvel put out, Dardevil, Howard the Duck, Dolph's Punisher and the previous Craptin Americas, televised and theatrical etc. I should also mention I hated X Men and Fantastic Four. I'm looking at Iron Man as the gold standard. If it's not as good or better they wasted my time and money.

I'll be glad when they add a spellcheck to this.

Darkknight2280 12/4/2008 5:10:46 AM

Ok well you may be right on the anime front..but let us not jump the gun before we see the material.

As far as all the old Marvel movies, I will agree they were CRAP on a stick. However as a kid i enjoyed Howard the Duck and as a pre-teen i Enjoyed Captain America (for what it was, but as you look back you realize how crappy it was) the old Punisher...well..it wascrap and still is crap today..lol As far as your comments on the Xmen movie, well it it werent for X-men comic movies today wouldnt be such a hot commodity. X-men created a resurgence in the genre, but it also took it a leap forward. Leaving in the dust all the crappy Batman movies (Save 1989 Batman, despite all its inacurracies). So as Far as Good DC movie's heres the score:

DC:

Superman, Superman II, Batman (1989), Batman Begins, The Dark Knight

Score: 5

Marvel:

X-men, X-Men 2, Spiderman, Spiderman 2, Blade, Blade 2, Iron Man, The incredible Hulk (non Ang lee version)

Score: 8

Please any and all give your take on DC vs Marvel movies?

br003 12/4/2008 6:13:19 PM

Your giving Xmen wayyy too much credit.  Besides if your give them any credit for a resurgence you should also give them some of the blame for stinkers like Daredevil, Electra. Personally I give the nod to independents, Hellboy. But in fairness to Marvel I would say Spiderman gave it a jolt. Xmen and Fantastic 4 got got to capitalize on the momentum. ... Where is my new Spawn??!!

Also I want to point out Road to Perdition which had no superheros did quite well for a comicbook movie. Maybe you could lump League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in there also.

you guys do know that when they mean ANIME... they mean Japanimation. Way different than these crappy ass american cartoon drawings.

br003 12/8/2008 5:18:32 PM

Ahhh but there's good anime and crappy anime. There was and Xmen series that had an anime opening but the actual series was cheap. Also most crappy american cartoons are outsourced anyway.

But back to the point I was making. Batman the animated series vs Xmen evolution two different styles, Batman better. Batman Gotham Knight vs Ultimate Avengers, Doctor Strange etc. again two different styles and Marvel again goes for the cheap.

By the way, I'll never forget the Australian Wolverine pbbbfft!.
