I wonder how Dark Horse is doing nowadys, I havent picked one of their comic's since the 20th century

shac2846 7/11/2012 12:28:14 PM

Dark Horse puts out some really cool collected editions of their properties like Alien, Predator, Star Wars and Indian Jones. They're trim size omnibus's with full color pages and they also have collections of their original stuff, Ghost, Alien Legion, Barb Wire, The Mask.

These titles sound cool, Massive sounds the most intriguing. I get most of woods stuff in trade so this won't be any different. His last book Northlanders about various viking stories was excellent. It just ended so I'm sure some nice collected editions are on the way. Highly recommend maniacs even if you have a undying loyaltly to only buy superhero books, who doesn't like some viking mayhem?

@shac Totally agree- Northlanders was one of my favorite books, and I'm sad to see it end. You are probably right- The Massive will read better in trade form. Issue #2 hits today, so I'm excited to see where the story goes.

I've been waiting for everything in trade except SAGA that damn thing has me in it's hooks.

Put this up in another thread but I forgot where.  Anyway, The Walking Dead Sale on Comixology, 99 cent per issue.  Or you can buy the volumes or omnibuses which are also on sale and it's cheaper.  3 omnibuses, 99 issues for $80.

Both The Massive and Planetoid are good reads. I'd add Creator Owned Comics to the mix too, mainly because it's three stories for $2.99 from Image Comics and it doesn't suck.

joelr 7/11/2012 8:16:30 PM

@shac Yeah, man, SAGA is the gem of the year so far in my book.

@hanso Great tip! I would have liked to do an article to coincide with TWD #100, but I'm unfortunately behind.

@DaForce Glad you dig Massive and Planetoid. I agree, Creator Owned Comics is a good read as well.

These do look like good reads.  I am already picking up a new indie comic this month, Puck Rock Jesus, so I don't want to build a mile long pull list anymore.  Trades are a different thing though, and I find lots of awesome stories without commiting indefinately to a series.  It gives me a greater chunk of the story to evaluate it's merits upon as well, sometimes with additional art and little to no advertisements.  Easier to swap or lend to others I find.

Many of the latest books from Image have had some of the best stuff out there. They are reall going outside the box and have implemented great writting in their arsenal. Revival, Planetoid, Hoax Hunter, Black Kiss.

They are really into places that Radical used to go 2 years ago, great stuff.

shac2846 7/12/2012 10:54:35 AM

Jedi if you're a radical fan right? What is up with the Oblivion graphic novel. I've had a preorder on that since last year and they keep pushing it back. Now it's listed as sometime in 2012 on their site. Are they holding the release until the movie? The book looks really good, guess I'm just anxious to check it out.

And yeah Image has some great stuff. They have a new title coming out called Great Pacific that looks really good to.
