
Comic-to-filmfans should plan on attending the 2002 Lake Placid Film Forum next month. Theevent will take place from Thursday, June 6 thru Sunday, June 9. attendees arepresented with an exciting series of Workshops, Panel Discussions and MasterClasses in a four-day period, in addition to screening over 60 films from aroundthe world, in what has got to be one of the most beautiful vacation spots onearth - the Adirondack mountains.
Of specialinterest to C2F readers is a panel discussion entitled "Reel Heroes:Comic Books and the New Film." It will focus on the growing relationshipbetween comic books and graphic novels on the world of film, and along the wayconfront the popular stereotypes of the genre.

Alsoappearing at the event will be actor CLIFF ROBERTSON, the star of Spider-Man("Uncle Ben") and RAY HARRYHAUSEN, special effects pioneer and the godbehind such classics as Jason and the Argonauts and TheSeventh Voyage of Sinbad. He will present his film Jason and theArgonauts as part of our celebration of the Saturday afternoon Matinee.After the screening Ray will hold a seminar focusing on special effects and hiscontributions to the art of stop-motion animation. The seminar will be moderatedby director Guillermo del Toro, who started his career as an effects artist. Infact, he owns and operates two FX houses, Necropia and Kill Again!
Other highlightsinclude BLADE II: SCRIPT TO SCREEN, a scene-by-scene discussion of the Hollywoodblockbuster featuring director Guillermo Del Toro and screenwriter David S.Goyer. The discussion will take place Saturday, June 8 from 10am-Noon and willbe highlighted by outakes and deleted scenes of the film. Blade II will bescreened the evening of Friday, June 7.
The festival isalso presenting a MASTER CLASS IN COMIC BOOK ART with Mike Mignola and a MASTERCLASS IN ACTING with Academy-Award winner Clif Robertson. Other Master Classesinclude acting with Tony Shalhoub (Galaxy Quest, "Jeebs" in MIB, MIBII), directing with Mira Nair, Monsoon Wedding and Mississippi Masala, andProducing with en Barenholtz, the producer of Darren Aronofsky's Requiem for aDream and Barton Fink, winner of the Palme D'Or at the 1991 Cannes FilmFestival.
