Common Says Fans Have Say for LEAGUE

I've read this a few times and I'm still not sure where Common---who's set to be Green Lantern---is coming from his latest quote to MTV. All indications, despite heavy pre-production snafus, is that a minor script rewrite is underway and production will roll soon on Justice League Mortal in somewhere not Australia. But from what he's saying to MTV here, it seems that production may be halted for other reasons. In the quote below, he says an adaptation of JLA will only hit if the fans make it possible. No poll is listed...

“I would love to say it will go through,” Common told MTV News. “I pray and hope that it will. Keep speaking it for real and it’s gonna happen.”

“For me, my daughter on Halloween she played Wonder Woman. She was Wonder Woman,” Common smiled. “For her to see her dad up there [next to Wonder Woman] - it would be beautiful.”

If there was a poll, how would you vote? Yay or nay?

I would vote that all the actors be replaced with adults. I'm not saying that Common wouldn't make a good John Stewart as I'm not familiar with all of his work, but I am definitly frowning on the idea that all of these young actors are being put in the roles of characters that are often having adult issues. This isn't MTV's Real World, or the Teen Titans. I'll keep an open mind of course, but come on it just seems like the studio is trying to make a quick buck and not care about the fans at all.

I say "nay". Nothing against Common, but recently re-confirming this ideology in the recent Justice League: New Frontier, I believe we need Hal Jordon as The Green Lantern, not John Stewart. If not Hal, at least Kyle Rayner. John Stewart always came off to me as a "Let's have a Black Green Lantern for the sake of having a Black Green Lantern" situation, and he's just a boring character. Heck, I'd rather see Guy Gardner as The Green Lantern in the JLA movie; at least he has more personality and story than Stewart.

Not only that, but in the animated JL series' Stewart was a very boring wielder of the ring. Hal (and to a lesser extent, Kyle) had an awesome origin story and an iconic place in the JL. If they go with John Stewart I'll just get a huge "Meh, another Rapper playing a hero who will no doubt spout out at least one very lame one-liner." feeling. Yes, I know the Justice League's founding members weren't of color (unless you count J'onn J'onzz) but substituting an iconic character for a relatively boring one is just wrong.

Of course, it's all about perspective. Some may like John Stewart, and some might see the importance of substituting an iconic character for racial diversity within the League. Who knows? I've said my piece, and a long piece it twas' (heh). I'm stepping off the soap box, so sound off.

I love DC's animated Justice League shows but this movies a bad idea, the rapper trying to polish this turd is a worse idea. Pretty good sign this movie wont be anything like what the fans want at all.

well this could work. i mean wait until we see a trailer or something before making harsh judgments. i mean hell the script isn't even complete yet. theres been so many of these movies thats been bashed before the script and as soon as that trailer hits.. all praise it. so just wait until we see further developments

I`m also in the "nay" camp, but have no problem with Common playing Green Lantern. Its not like they just created a black Green Lantern out of thin air. I think its a little ridiculous to be complaining about this. I thought that the Lantern Corps were made up of many different races and species from all over the universe? I grew up with Hal Jordan as GL but hey its 2008. I do agree that I think most of the cast are too young apart from Common who actually fits the age of Stewart.
And yes, Common is a hiphop artist. So the hell what? You act like this is his first movie. He was in American Gangster and Smokin Aces.

Hell motherfuckin' nay! Poor choice in director, a cast of nobodies, an apparently weak script. This has "straight to video" written all over it

I've said it before and I'll shout it from Gotham Tower. Get these suits in touch with ALEX ROSS. Show these guys his artwork and scream THIS IS WHAT THE F#$ING JUSTICE LEAGUE LOOKS LIKE!!!! If you absolutely have to go with "names" then I want Guy Pearce as Hal Jordan, Lena Heady or Tricia Helfer as Wonder Woman, Michael C. Hall as Batman, Ryan Reynolds as the Flash, and Karl Urban as Aquaman, maybe they could get Matthew Bomer for Superman.
