Toy Maniac: Sweet Sci-Fi Toys from Toy Fair 2013

Great Sci-Fi Goodies from Toy Fair

By Robert T. Trate     February 22, 2013
Source: Mania.com

The International Toy Fair transpired a little over a week ago and dropped some amazing toys on us. Now whether or not you are a die hard Toy Manic, a collector who likes to turn a profit (Mania’s own Jarrett Kruse), or someone who just likes to decorate their desk, these toys are easily the best of Toy Fair 2013 when it comes to Sci-Fi.

MATTEL

The previous Ghostbuster accessory, PKE Meter, was huge success (seen here). The Ecto Goggles are the next in the line of Ghostbusters role playing toys from MattyCollector. How long will we have to wait for a Proton Pack of this caliber?

This is the second time Granamyr has appeared on a “Top 10” list here on Mania. He appeared at Comic Con and now Toy Fair. How much longer will we have to wait for the biggest Masters of the Universe figure? Granamyr, there is a special place for you on my book shelf.

FUNKO

There are so many of these POP vinyl figures and it was only a matter of time until there were Ape figures. If there was anything on this list that actually went with the term “sweet” it would be these vinyl figures. Now we’ll just have to check out Hot Topic and Barnes and Noble to get them. These arrive in November of 2013.

HASBRO

“The TRANSFORMERS GENERATIONS TITAN CLASS METROPLEX is the largest converting TRANSFORMERS toy EVER! At over two feet tall, METROPLEX from the hit video game TRANSFORMERS: FALL OF CYBERTRON from Activision, the AUTOBOTS’ ultimate weapon converts from robot mode to rolling battle platform mode, and converts into an AUTOBOT city! The ULTIMATE action figure for TRANSFORMERS fans!” - Hasbro

WOW! This buries this old version, hands down. A perfect toy to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Transformers!

“Explore the final frontier with the crew of the U.S.S. ENTERPRISE, the iconic ship from the STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS movie.  Inspired by the ship featured in the film, the KRE-O STAR TREK U.S.S. ENTERPRISE is 18-inches long and is the first KRE-O set that actually lights up featuring LIGHTTECH! Explore the bridge interior play area, glowing warp engines, and launch a projectile from a lighted photon torpedo.  Kids and fans alike will be excited to join KREON figures of CAPTAIN KIRK, SPOCK and DR. MCCOY on the bridge to defend against two villain KREON figures.  Set includes 432 pieces and five KREON figures.  Requires three AAA Alkaline batteries. Batteries not included”. -Hasbro

I wasn’t a huge fan of the Transformers KRE-O line. This line, for Star Trek Into Darkness, has a lot more appeal. This Enterprise is a perfect way to start the collection.

NECA

Let’s get to it quickly. Spring 2013 is when you can finally get Hicks and Hudson. Sure, there have been Aliens before, but, finally, they will have something to fight other than Predators. Get the full details here on the Aliens 7 inch Assortment Series 1 at NECA.com

The Predators Trophy Wall Diorama finally arrives after being teased in Predator 2. NECA will release this intricate display in May of 2013. Now we’ll have something to display all of our Alien and Predator figures with.

The Gremlin Prop Replica Puppets are a sure way to scare the hell out of your friends and family. They are already out and available at Entertainment Earth.com. Check out the all the Gremlin toys on NECA.com

THINK GEEK

This one immediately grabbed my attention at Toy Fair. The USB Squirming Tentacle stores absolutely no data, but it will creep your co-workers out completely. It squirms and that is all it does. Which makes it a perfect toy. Who knows, you it might be able to summon the Elder Gods or perhaps even Cthulhu. Order it on Think Geek.com here

MEZCO TOYZ

Mezco Toyz launched their rendition of the Universal’s Frankenstein last year (seen here). This year they have added both The Mummy (included below, available in October) and my personal favorite, The Creature From the Black Lagoon (June 2013). Check out this full details and ordering information on Mazco Toyz.com
