On Thurdsay night, The San Francisco Film Society honored George Lucas to mark the 50th anniversary of the San Francisco International Film Festival.

Reuters had a chance to quickly talk with him and Lucas said he is ready to begin work as a producer next month on the fourth installment of the Indiana Jones film franchise.

He also noted, Sean Connery has not yet agreed to return as Indiana Jones' father. "We have a script with him in it. If he doesn't do it, we'll do a quick rewrite," Lucas said.

Just like Robert Duvall in Godfather III. He was given an offer and he refused it.

everybody is concerned over Ford's age. How old is Connery getting? He must be getting up there in age as well of Ford is pushing 60's.

It does not matter what Fords age is and I am sure the script will reflect this...I had a chance to meet him 4 years back in Wyoming at a small cafe and I asked him about a new Indy movie, he said he was not sure of when it will happen but that he has had a health/workout trainer for years and did not plan to get rid of him so he will be in good shape when the time comes to start filming...Of course he will not be able to do the things he did before as far as grueling stunts go but he should be able to handle himself just fine...

Connery has said in interviews that he has essentially retired from acting these days. Although he said he wasn’t against acting in particular roles again, he did say that it would cost them a LOT of money to get him back into acting. He was in the interview referring to the Bond films in particular, but I’m sure the sentiment applies to this scenario as well.

I read he wanted to be in the next Bond. He also said that he would love to do another Indy. But if Lucas says they'll do a rewrite... how much of the film is he really going to be in?

Connery won't be in any actions scenes! Thats for sure. More than likely a phone call or something like that.

Just so everybody knows, Ford is going to be 65 this July...just checked in on IMDB.com. Sean Connery is going to be 77 in August. I think everybody puts too much emphasis on age when it comes to this movie and it's actors. Some actors don't give in to old age just because they happen to be senior citizens. Hell, Kirk Douglas kept working even AFTER he had a stroke. Has Sean Connery or Harrison Ford given ANY indication that they can't pull these roles off? Anyway, this story, from what I've heard, is going to take place in the 50's or 60's as opposed to the 30's like the other ones did. I think you should all cease and desist all of this "Old Folk Bashing" and wait until the movie comes out to make up your minds.

Actually, wasn't it reported that Connery retired from acting? If they can make a "quick rewrite" it means he is limited to nothing more than a cameo. BTW, people complaining aobut both men's age...I'd venture to guess that they are both in better health and shape than many who take jabs. I find it very believeable that they could both hold their own.
