Scribe Frank Cappello has posted the latest word on the long developing CONSTANTINE movie, based on the DC Comics series HELLBLAZER.
According to Comics2Film, the scribe, once again, posted his latest word on the project on the DC Comics message boards.
Regarding the project's helmer, Tarsem (THE CELL), Cappello says, "Now that I've worked with the man I can honestly say he has a lot more going for him then his incredible visual sense. He understands the underlying struggles within this world and is an extremely intelligent and actually darkly humorous man. His push on the visual side will be nothing less then spectacular."
The scribe also followed up on a previous posting regarding Warner Bros. orders that the character be American rather than the Brit in the original series. Though he lobbied for the Brit depiction, the character will be from the U.S.
In addition, Cappello dropped that Nicolas Cage is close to signing on board the project in the title role. The scribe expected it to go down in a week or so.
Cage must have set a record for involvement in potential comic book related movie vehicles. Currently, the GHOST RIDER project, in which he was eyeing the Johnny Blaze role, has been delayed when Stephen Norrington jumped ship to direct Jennifer Lopze in TICK-TOCK... which, in turn, was delayed for some further tweaking. Cage was also set to play the Man of Steel in the aborted SUPERMAN movie project to be helmed by Tim Burton. Cage also told CINESCAPE that he is involved in the developing HARD BOILED project, too, based on the Frank Miller/Geoff Darrow graphic novel.
