YOGI BEAR Hitting the Big Screen (Mania.com)

Warner Bros. has announced their plans to develop a live-action/animated Yogi Bear for the big screen, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The move comes a year after 20th Century Fox banked at the box office with their adaptation of Alvin and the Chipmunks, a film which wound up grossing $359.6 million worldwide and spawning a sequel due in theaters in March 19, 2010.

Screenwriters Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia are penning the screenplay. Donald De Line is producing via his De Line Pictures; Karen Rosenfelt is also producing, with Jon Berg overseeing for the studio.

Plot Concept: Yogi Bear first appeared as a supporting character in 1958 in another classic cartoon, "The Huckleberry Hound Show." In 1961, he got his own show, which has aired in reruns frequently during the past half-century. Yogi's exploits take place in Jellystone Park, where he and Boo Boo get into good-natured mischief and must elude their nemesis, Ranger Smith.

Most of the movie will be live-action, but Yogi Bear and sidekick Boo Boo will be done in CG.
