Mr. Will Smith is out making the press rounds for his mysterious and Oscar-baiting movie 'Seven Pounds'. That didn't stop the guys at Film School Rejects from catching him for some question about 'Oldboy'.
Just over a week ago word broke that Smith would topline an America version of the hit Korean film. But Smith told FSR that they're not remaking Park Chan-wook's cult smash movie. Instead, they're working from the Manga series by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya.
"We’re looking at that right now. Not the film though, it’s the original source material," Smith explained. "There’s the original comics of ‘Oldboy’ that they made the first film from. And that’s what we’re working from, not an adaptation of the film…”
The Manga was released for Japanese audiences in 1997. Park Chan-wook released the Korean film version in 2003, which found its way to U.S. audiences in 2004. Dark Horse Comics then released the English language translations of the Manga in 2006.
