Although the synergy may seem unlikely, up-and-coming screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos has been tapped to pen the script for the sequel to last year's comic-based blockbuster 'Wanted'. Unlikely because Spiliotopoulos' most recent claims to fame are the Disney's 'Pooh's Heffalump Movie' and 'Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie'.
The writer will be working from a concept by Chris Morgan, architect of the first in the series. The article does not mention or explain why Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, who co-wrote the original are not returning. Last May the trades announced that they were on board for part two.
Timur Bekmambetov is said to be on board as director and producer of the sequel. Marc E. Platt and Jim Lemley are producing as well.
The original was, of course, based on the comic by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. Millar's next comic-to-film prospect, 'Kick-Ass' is due in theaters later this year.
Spiliotopoulos has penned another comics adapatation, 'Agnes Quill', based on the graphic novel by Dave Roman.
