On to the next round of moe-meets-mahjong-themed anime. Now that we are into the tournament, we should expect the sports cliches to start piling up.

What They Say
Episode 8 - The Night Before
Kyiosumi High School advanced to the next round of the National Prefectural Qualifiers. They all get to travel around the country together! Saki and Hisa experienced these feelings together. However, the players at Ryuumonbuchi, Kazekoshi, and Tsuruga refuse to be defeated!

The Review!
: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
And so we have an episode of filler until the next round of the tournament. The team head back to their home town, but first stop at a ramen stand for a late dinner, Hisa's treat.

The rest of the episode is largely spent in looking at the interactions of the various members of the Kiyosumi club (who naturally break down into three pairs: Hisa and Mako, Kyoutaro and Yuuki, and of course Saki and Nodoka). We also spend some quality time with the Kazekoshi team, all of whom seem to love their captain, the Ryuumonbuchi team, who are still dealing with Koromo's sleepiness, and a first look at the captain of the Tsuruga Academy team, who has a trick of her own up her sleeve, as she has a player who emanates a battle aura as we have seen other plays do.

The Yuuki-riffic ending is back, for those who were worried.

In Summary:
Instead of building upon the suspense and expectation created in the first rounds of the tournament, we instead have a lull before the coming storm. We get to see more of the lighthearted interaction of Kyoutaro and Yuuki, introspection and reminiscing from Hisa and Mako, and Nodoka and Saki continuing to provide further evidence for the romantic pairing that most fans seem to take for granted existing between them. We also get a decent look at the Kazekoshi team, who have strong feelings for their captain, along with brief looks in at the Ryuumonbuchi and Tsuruga teams. This should be the last bit of lead up before we have a truly climactic battle, to see who gets to continue on to the National tournament.
