'Scott Pilgrim' puts on a rock show. Plus: New 'G.I. Joe' trailer. Tyrese talks 'Luke Cage'. Shia still up for 'Y: The Last Man'. 'Transformers 2' hype and more.  Kickin' the flavor that makes you want to jump, jump, it's your Comics2Film 9.6.22!

Shia Can't Quit Y: THE LAST MAN

Last week it sounded like Shia LaBeouf was writing off the idea of appearing in the filmed adaptation of 'Y: The Last Man' after telling Wizard Magazine, "I'm not willing to make that movie currently, and may be too old to play the role by the time it does come around."

Now, in and interview with Collider.com the 'Transformers' actor clarified his stance on the film saying that he loves the comics and very much wants to do the movie, but he just doesn't want to do it as his next thing.

"It’s just too 'Sam Witwicky'", LaBeouf said, referring to his 'Transformers' character. "It’s not as big as a variation for me.  I want to do something that’s foreign."

He then confirmed that he'll likely do other projects while director D.J. Caruso continues to fine tune the 'Y' script, but they still hope to make the movie down the road.

"...that’s what’s going on right now.  Vaughn and Ellsworth and DJ are writing the script now.  The script is not ready to be shot," LaBeouf said.  "DJ is making a different movie right now.  He’s making 'Jack and the Beanstalk.'  There’s just other things going on with DJ and I wouldn’t want to make the movie with anybody else because he loves it like I do.  But I don’t think Vaughn is trying to give it to anybody else. I think that it is something that’s very realistic, it’s just not in the pipe for the next year."

LaBeouf ranks 'Y: The Last Man' among his favorite comics, along with Ed Brubaker's 'Criminal' series and the works of Neil Gaiman.

Fox says her HEX Role is Serious

Out doing press for 'Transformers', Megan Fox took a moment to fill the press in on her small role in the 'Jonah Hex' movie. She insists that her old west hooker character Leila is not in the movie to be eye candy.

"It's pretty serious," Fox told SCI FI Wire. "It's the most serious thing I've done so far."

Tyrese longs for LUKE CAGE

Another 'Transformers' actor talking about a movie other than 'Transformers' is Tyrese Gibson. The actor has long been attached to star in a 'Luke Cage' movie, based on Marvel's bare-knuckle blacksploitation tough guy. John Singleton has previously been rumored as a potential director.

Speaking with the CanWest News Services the actor said it's still his dream to work on the film.

"I think we'll get there," he old the press, although he's unsure if Singleton is still along for the ride.

SCOTT PILGRIM Rock Show

Video Blog #8 for 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World' is now online. Entitled "Music!", the blog details the opening scene in which Pilgrim's band "Sex Bob-omb" plays a local club. The location for the scene happens to be a club that 'Pilgrim' creator Bryan Lee O'Malley performed at with his band. On hand to coach the actors is Chris Murphy, front man for the Canadian rock band Sloan, which is referenced in the 'Scott Pilgrim' books.

New G.I.JOE Trailer

And, there's a new trailer for 'G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra' online at Cinemablend. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'm not dismissing this movie just yet. It doesn't look like high art by any means, but certainly seems as if it could provide 90 or so minutes of light amusement.

TRANSFORMERS 2 Opens Big Overseas

The Hollywood Reporter tells us that 'Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen' took the #1 spots in the U.K. and Japan this weekend, where it bowed early. It racked up about $20 million in ticket sales at 856 locations.

For the U.K., that's a 71% improvement over the original film's opening. In Japan the sequel bettered the original by 13%.

The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal gets U.S. Debut at Comic-Con

PRESS RELEASE

The documentary film 'The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal' will have its American premiere at the San Diego Comic Con on Saturday, July 25, 2009.

The film covers the history of the nero fumetto (dark comics) of Italy and Europe that had super-villains rather than superheroes as protagonists, the evolution of the foto romanzo (photo novels, a rare bird in the American market) and the socio-political mood of the 1960s that led to their creation and censorship. The focus of the film is the character KILLING (published in the US as SADISTIK), a descendant of such villains as Fantomas and Diabolik where the comics were told with photos instead of illustrations.

The film has amusing interviews with the actors from the comics, many who also had extensive film careers in European genre films with such directors as Fellini, Bava and Argento.

'The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal' has screened to much acclaim all over Europe and will be of great interest to American fans of comics, spy films, masked wrestlers and other crazy cult ephemera!

ADELE BLANC-SEC gets Worldwide Release

Here's one that slipped past the radar, but may still be of interest to those among us intrigued by films based on foreign-language comics.

Variety reports that at Cannes EuropaCorp sold out 80% of territories on Luc Besson's next directorial movie, 'The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec'.

Louise Bourgoin ('The Girl From Monaco') stars in the movie.

The French-language film is said to be  a 1912 Paris-set femme adventure-action film, which Besson  describes as "a cross between 'Amelie' and 'Indiana Jones.' "

Wikipedia offers this synopsis of the comic strip:

"The adventures, set in Paris in the years before and after World War I, revolve around the protagonist Adèle Blanc-Sec. A cynical heroine, she is initially a novelist of popular fiction, who turns to investigative journalism as her research and subsequent adventures reveal further details of the mystical world of crime. Themes of the occult, corruption, official incompetence, and the dangers of patriotism suffuse the series."
