TRANSFORMERS A Box Office Titan

As you know if you read Mania's weekend box office report, 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' did crazy good business last week, making it the event movie of the summer. Over the 5-day opener it took in $201 million domestically and $387 million world-wide.

Box Office Mojo shows it hitting numerous interesting milestones:

SMURFS Movie in 3-D

Elsewhere on Mania is a report of the Belgian comic strip turned toon phenom, 'The Smurfs', coming to screens in 3D. Current projections for the long-languishing CGI film are for December 17, 2010. Plans now include a mix of CGI and live-action.

No Shanghai in Chinese TRANSFORMERS

Fans seeing 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' in China will have to deal with a bit of censorship, says The Hollywood Reporter. Government officials have removed removed the name of China's biggest city, Shanghai, from the film. It sounds as if no film was cut, but rather any audible mention of the city by name was excised.

The dialogue in question involves a U.S. Miltary commander who speaks the line, "not after all the damage done in S****hai", which is now garbled on the Chinese soundtrack.

Apparently the Chinese censors are very protective of the country's image. The bleeping is the latest in a series of edits on Hollywood imports.

Guggenheim Avoids Talking About GREEN LANTERN

ThinkMcFlyThink had a chat with comics/TV/Film writer Marc Guggenheim who, as we well know by now, is part of the writing trio on the 'Green Lantern' movie. Guggenheim continues his tack of saying nothing and keeping his bosses happy.

"'Green Lantern' continues to move forward," he said. "But I can't say any more about it. I've signed a blood oath of secrecy."

He also reiterated that, where casting rumors are concerned, "I haven't read a single thing that is accurate," but admits that when casting does happen, he'll probably learn about it online like most fans.

Snyder demos WATCHMEN's Maximum Movie Mode

Forget director commentaries. The new 'Watchmen' Blu-Ray release will include "Maximum Movie Mode", in which Zack Snyder gives a virtual seminar on his movie right in your own living room (or wherever you watch your Blu-Rays).

Check out these video clips from Amazon.com in which Snyder describes and demos the new feature.

Thanks to Antonello Blueberry for the submission.

Gordon-Levitt on G.I.JOE

Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has carved out a rep for himself as a serious actor, doing smaller edgier movies like 'Brick' and 'The Lookout' after his run on a hit TV sitcom. So SCI FI WIre wants to know why he's made the unlikely move of playing the Cobra Commander in 'G.I.Joe: The Rise of Cobra'.

"Well, that movie has nothing to do with reality,"  the actor said. "It's really just about being an archetype. I'm just a future ruler of the world."

But at the end of the day, Gordon-Levitt wants to play with G.I.Joe for the same reason as most action figure fans.

"It's fun. It's like playing with toys. It's like being a kid and playing."

SPOILER: Stan Lee's IRON MAN 2 Cameo Revealed

Several sites, including Collider.com, are reporting what Stan Lee's cameo will be in 'Iron Man 2'.

Fans will recall that in the previous movie, Stan played Hugh Hefner and rubbed shoulders with Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark at a party scene. It was a really fun scene if it caught you off guard.

Stan will fill a similar role in this movie. This is a SPOILER so we're presenting the news in white text to protect the innocent. Swipe it with your mouse cursor if you want to read it.

Collider's scooper says that Stan appears as talk-show great Larry King this time around. He bumps into Tony Stark and wants to know when he's going to appear on his show.

Excelsior!
