Pixar Denies ANT-MAN Rumors

Well, if there was any doubt that those "Pixar is doing Marvel's 'Ant-Man'" rumors were a bit overblown, the company's chief creative officer John Lasseter laid those stories to rest at the weekend's D23 Expo.

MTV Splash Page reports that the exec told fans there, "I had met all the folks from Marvel a couple of times and they're terrific. The whole 'Ant-Man' thing is just a rumor."

David Henrie is THE WEAPON

The Hollywood Reporter tips the next project from Platinum Studios, which is an adaptation of their comic series 'The Weapon'. Actor David Henrie, currently seen on Disney Channel's 'Wizards of Waverly Place' is set to star in the film.

The concept, created by Platinum's Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, tells of martial arts enthusiast and inventor Tommy Zhou, who has developed a ground-breaking portable innovation that an evil order will stop at nothing to steal. Unlike many hypothetical Platinum comics, this one was actually published in 2007 and Henrie was a big fan.

"'The Weapon' is so awesome, and my Disney audience will enjoy the empowerment and action-filled journey my character experiences," Henrie told the Reporter. "I'm a huge fan and student of MMA (mixed martial arts), and I hope to bring that to the character of Tommy."

Rosenberg will produce along with Jim Henrie. Randy Greenberg of the Greenberg Group will exec produce.

The move follows a hot streak for Platinum, which just wrapped filming on 'Dead of Night' and recently announced the attachment of director Jon Favreau and star Robert Downey Jr. to their 'Cowboys and Aliens' feature. Other projects include 'Witchblade', 'The Magdalena', 'Atlantis Rising' and 'Unique'.

Nelson says, "No Plans for SUPERMAN"

MTV Splash Page chatted up Diane Nelson, the new head of DC Entertainment who told the site that the new comics-to-film entity has nothing brewing in terms of a 'Superman' movie.

"We actually don't have any current plans for Superman," Nelson said straight up. Although that's not to say something could come up further down the road.

"We've obviously done a lot of great things behind the property in our history, and it's a key part of the family, but we don't have current plans behind Superman," she said.

Class Action Suit Aims to Thwart Disney/Marvel Merger

The legal firm of Levi & Korsinsky, LLP have announced a class action suit that could throw a monkey wrench into the planned merger of Marvel and Disney. The upshot of the claim is that the deal on the table for shareholders is below the fair value the of Marvelstock they currently hold.

Here's their press release...

Levi & Korsinsky announces that a class action lawsuit has been filed in New York state court challenging the proposed acquisition of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. ("Marvel" or the "Company") (NYSE: MVL). The complaint arises out of the announcement by Marvel stating that it had entered into a definitive merger agreement with Walt Disney Co. ("Walt Disney") (NYSE: DIS). Under the terms of the agreement, Marvel shareholders would receive a total of $30 per share in cash plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own for a total transaction value of approximately $4 billion. The transaction values Marvel shares at approximately $50 per share, based on the $26.84 closing price of Walt Disney stock the day prior to the announcement. The complaint alleges that the consideration offered is inadequate because it is less than the intrinsic value of the Company.

For fiscal year 2008, Marvel has reported revenues of $676 million and net income of $205 million, as compared to revenues of $485 million and income of $139 million for fiscal year 2007.

The companies expect to consummate the transaction before the end of 2009, subject to customary closing conditions, including all necessary regulatory and stockholder approvals.

If you own common stock in Marvel and wish to obtain additional information, please contact us at the number listed below or visit http://www.zlk.com/mvl1.html.

Levi & Korsinsky has expertise in prosecuting investor securities litigation and extensive experience in actions involving financial fraud and represents investors throughout the nation, concentrating its practice in securities and shareholder litigation.

Cage Had Creative Differences on THE GREEN HORNET

The Canadian Press caught up with actor Nicolas Cage and asked him why he dropped out of the production of 'The Green Hornet'. Cage had been close to signing on as the villainous Mr. X, a role filled this week by 'Inglorious Basterds' actor Christoph Waltz.

Cage said he didn't care for the character as scripted and with the production start imminent there was little or no room to address his concerns.

"''The Green Hornet' was something that I wanted to do, I think Michel Gondry is very talented and I had hoped it would work but I think Seth Rogen and Michel had a different take on the character," said Cage, adding he "wasn't interested in just being just a straight-up bad guy who was killing people willy-nilly."

I had to have some humanity and to try to give it something where you could understand why the character was the way he was but I don't think there was enough time to develop it."

'Green Hornet' is currently filming in Los Angeles, with an eye on a December 2010 release date.
