The comic-based  'Surrogates' starring Bruce Willis dropped three places this week, falling from #2 to #5 according to Mania's box office report. The film took in another $7.3 million this week, bringing its two-week domestic gross to some $26 million. The movie gave up ground to three new openers 'Zombieland', 'Toy Story/Toy Story 2' and 'The Invention of Lying'.

Mandeville Options CLA$$WAR

Variety reports that  Mandeville Films has picked up the option on the Com.x title 'Cla$$War'.

Created by writer Rob Williams, the comic's timely subject deals with a superman created by the American government, who decides to battle the corporate power-brokers that control his country. Here's the description from the Com.x website:

Modern day America - a sedated nation, a land of authoritarian corporations, corruption and imposing wealth. A society controlled by money and the media. Two men are going to change that. An ex-CIA operative and one of the government’s own genetically-enhanced soldiers now question what they were fighting for. Together they’re going to battle for the truth. They’re going to show the ordinary people the real rulers of the “free” world. But the secret monarchs aren’t just going to sit back and let them speak. The renegades know too much. They need to be silenced and it’s going to take all-out war to do it…

Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman to produce. Rick Alexander of Alexander Content will serve as co-producer.

Mandeville is behind the current comic flick 'Surrogates' and the recently-announced adaptation of Top Cow's 'Alibi'.

RHI, the producers behind the new 'Phantom' mini-series for SyFy Channel, have unveiled a poster promoting the show on their website. The image (presented in tiny form only) shows the back of Ryan Carnes combat armor for the show.

The site also posts this description of 'The Phantom':

Young urban daredevil Kit Walker finds himself recruited by a secret organization, unveiling a heritage he never could have dreamed possible. Revered as the twenty-first "ghost who walks," he must now uphold and honor his ancestors' creed-to fight crime and injustice throughout the world. But it's a new world out there, and going up against high-tech savvy criminals will take training and discipline unlike anything bestowed on the Phantom.

ABC Warriors

We've run across a cool bit of animated footage for fans of the UK's flagship '2000 AD' comics magazine.

Firestep Animation has created a brief trailer based on the comic 'ABC Warriors'. At present we have little information about what the trailer actually represents. Firestep states that it was made with the full cooperation of Rebellion, who holds the rights to the 2000 AD catalog. The Manchester-based animation studio is best known for 'the Infinite Quest', an animated Dr Who adventure for the BBC.

'ABC Warriors' focuses on a team of war robots designed to defend against Atomic, Bacterial and Chemical warfare.

This is a bit off the beaten path, not a film based on a comic, but a film about comics. Still, it looks very interesting...

Actor Ryan Reynolds appeared on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" last week. Fallon asked him about 'Green Lantern' and 'Deadpool'.

As expected, Reynolds couldn't say much about the DC Comics project, except he did confirm they expect to shoot four or five months from now.

Fallon humorously admits to knowing little of 'Green Lantern' so Reynolds has to school him a bit, before unleashing his super powers on the TV screen. Observe:

Stellan Skarsgaard cast in THOR?

Although for months it was speculated that Alexander Skarsgård ('True Blood') was a contender for the lead role in 'Thor', it appears that his father, actor Stellan Skarsgård has actually landed a role in the film.

Swedish site Ystads Allehanda reports that the actor has confirmed that he's landed a role in the Marvel film.

"They wanted me to sign without reading the script.  That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was coded that I could only print one copy," Skarsgård is quoted as saying.

The actor would not reveal what role he may have. He'll join Chris Hemsworth (who plays the lead), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster),
Jaime Alexander (Sif) and Colm Feore.

What do you think, Maniacs? Who might Skarsgard be playing? Odin perhaps? Post your comments below...
