ST. TRINIAN'S arrives January 46

From a press release

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have announced the U.S. release of the comic strip-based British comedy 'St. Trinian's' on DVD January 26, 2010.

The film star Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Lena Headey, Russell Brand and Mischa Barton. The DVD will have special features such as a making-of featurette, bloopers, deleted scenes and a music video performed by U.K. pop sensation Girls Aloud, who also make a cameo in the film.

'St. Trinian’s' will be available for the suggested price of $24.96.

'St. Trinian’s', the infamous school for ‘young ladies,’ is in trouble. Despite being an old flame of its Headmistress (in a top-of-his-class comic performance by Ruper Everett), the new Education Minister is shaking things up and the school is facing financial ruin. But the students of St. Trinian’s aren’t going to give up without a fight. After all, they excel at chaos and attitude not chemistry and algebra…and that’s exactly what it’s going to take to beat the authorities before they close down their beloved school for good. Starring Colin Firth, Lena Headey, Russell Brand and Caterina Murino. Also starring Mischa Barton, Talulah Riley and Gemma Arterton, with a cameo appearance by U.K. sensation Girls Aloud. Based on the popular drawings of 'The Girls of St. Trinian's' by Ronald Searle, and following the hit film series of the 1950's and 60's.

The film is directed and produced by Oliver Parker and Barnaby Thompson, and is written by Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft.

Jason Schwarztman on SCOTT PILGRIM

MTV Splash Page had a chat with actor Jason Schwartzman, who lends his voice to next week's 'Fantastic Mr. Fox'. Schwartzman also spent some time this summer on the set of Edgar Wright's adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's free-wheeling comics series 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World'.

The actor told MTV that he's seen the opening 20 minutes of the film, which features young slackers in love, with plenty of kung fu fighting and video game power ups.

"It's unlike anything I've seen in my entire life," Schwartzman enthused. "It's really funny, it's really emotional, there's a lot of romance—but the action sequences, I've never seen scenes quite like these. They're really beautiful."

He also added to his past copious praise for Wright and leading man Michael Cera.

Check out two clips for Schwartzman's complete comments.

A Hail of THOR Chatter

Stan Lee, Jaimie Alexander and...Zachary Levi?...all talk about the the movie!

As Kenneth Branagh's vision of Marvel's 'Thor' hurtles towards a January production start, chatter on the web by folks involved with the movie is increasing.

First up, none other than the Thunder God's co-creator Stan Lee is twittering about the film. It'll surprise no one that Lee will make a cameo in the movie, as he has in most all recent Marvel movies.

On Thursday night he tweeted about it.

"Since many have asked, my 'Iron Man' cameo is done and I'm waiting to do 'Thor'. But I'n not goin' to Asgard unless they fly me first class!"

He's not the only one tweeting about the film. Actress Jaimie Alexander has been posting blurbs about her training for the role of the sexy Asgardian warrior woman Sif in the film. Here are some of her recent, related tweets:

But the most intriguing bit of 'Thor news comes from Saturday's USA Weekend blog chat with 'Chuck' star Zachary Levi.

The comedic actor reveals that he had actually been cast in the movie. Levi was lined up to play one of the Warriors Three, the dashing swashbuckler Fandral. Like Alexander, Levi had been bulking up for the part.

However, when the current season of his NBC TV series went from 13 episodes to 19, Levi was needed for extra filming and had to walk away from the film.

The actor also told USA Weekend (perhaps jokingly) that had originally been called in to audition for the lead role. "I’m tall and in pretty good shape, but I’m not big and girthy like that," he said.

Thanks to Matador for the submission.
