Disney Buys into Stan Lee's POW!

All of the Disney acquisition buzz has been on the Marvel deal, for obvious reasons. But Stan Lee's more recent venture POW! (Purveyors of Wonder) Entertainment, Inc. also has links to the mouse house, and those links are about to get stronger.

Over the weekend, Pow! announced a that would have Disney acquiring a 10% stake in Lee's media company for $2.5 million. The studio already had a first-look arrangement with Pow! since 2007, which yeilded such properties as the recently launched motion comic series 'Time Jumper'.

"Enhancing our relationship with one of the world’s most creative and innovative entertainment companies makes perfect sense given all the exciting projects we have underway," said Lee, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of POW! "Disney has been a great partner for us and we look forward to working closely with them in the coming years. In addition to the huge creative opportunity this affords POW!, it also provides for the next positive stage in the expansion of the company itself."

Bob Chapek, President, Worldwide Distribution, Walt Disney Studios added, "Stan has incredible creative energy and continues to come up with great original stories that can work across many of our platforms, ranging from console games to motion pictures and from our boys-focused Disney XD network to mobile devices. Put that together with his knowledge and familiarity of the Marvel universe and it makes perfect sense to extend our excellent working relationship with Stan and POW!"

Hopefully this means we'll be seeing new Striperella episodes on ABC Family!

Worthington  Says FLASH GORDON Rumors are Bogus

Last week the website Hollyscoop.com floated a rumor that actors Sam Worthington and Ryan Reynolds were vying for the lead role in the planned 'Flash Gordon' movie.

Ain't it Cool checked with the current IT boy of action film and found out the rumors are bogus.

"There is no validity to the rumours," Worthington told Ain't it Cool when asked about the story. "Sometimes, as you know, studios tend to just scat ideas and they leak out - but its the first i have heard about it mate."

Hollyscoop also floated the Taylor Swift-as-Supergirl rumors in recent weeks.

HUMAN TARGET Clips

We're just a few weeks away from the debut of 'Human Target'. Perhaps the most anticipated of Fox TV's new offerings, the show stars Mark Valley as freelance security expert Christopher Chance. The show is based on the DC/Vertigo comics of the same name.

It debuts on January 17th, but Comics Continuum has four clips from the show's pilot episode that you can watch right now!

Feige talks Marvel, Thor

Marvel.com has a Q & A with Marvel Studios big-shot Kevin Feige, who reflects on his remarkable journey from being a creative executive at Donner/Shuler-Donner working on 'X-Men' some ten years ago, to his current status as one of Hollywood's major power players.

Feige talks specifically about how fans are now seeing films that truly reflect the Marvel universe of comics.

"The best thing about 'The Incredible Hulk' was doing the movie we wanted to do. We wanted to blend the television series with the comics. With Tim Roth as Abomination we were able to show a battle that wasn't possible in the original TV show but was done in the comics. Plus there are a lot of Easter eggs that are in there that we'll be playing off of in the coming films," Feige said.

Such Easter eggs included hints about 'Captain America' and the super-soldier story, as well as further fleshing out of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a player in the Marvel movie world.

That world will include Kenneth Branagh's vision of 'Thor'

"To be honest the thing that I'm most excited about right now though, is the screen test we just finished for 'Thor.' We've done some costume tests and watching the Asgardians walk onto the sound stage takes me back to that first time I saw the X-Men on the set all together in Toronto," Feige said. "Only it was unlike anything we've ever put on film before! It's great to be starting the next decade in such an exciting way just as we did last decade. We're really redefining the comic book genre and what a Marvel movie can be. It's going to be great."

Be excited, Marvel fans!

Marvel Accepts Disney's Hand in Marriage

Not unexpectedly, Marvel closed out the New Year with a special stockholder's meeting to decide whether or not to accept the terms of the planned sale of the company to Disney. Late in the afternoon it was announced that the deal had been approved and Disney has completed its acquisition of "renowned character franchise company", Marvel Entertainment Inc.

"We’re thrilled to welcome to the Disney family the talented team at Marvel," said Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. "We believe the creative and business potential of this combination is substantial and can help us grow both our top and bottom line, leading to a significant increase in long-term shareholder value."

Lucky shareholders are cashing in their Marvel stocks (currently valued at about $54 per share) for $30 cash and a 0.7452 share of Disney stock for every 1 share of Marvel that they currently own.

Never mind shareholder value. Give us our Pixar/Marvel team-up! Give us our 'Brother Voodoo' series on ABC! Give us our 'Devil Dinosaur' toon show!

Speaking of CAPTAIN AMERICA...

Fans can watch the 'Captain America' movie online right now! We're referring, of course, to the cheese-tacular 1990 film that was released during the dark days of Marvel movies, where characters were foolishly licensed away for a song. Now Hulu.com has the entire movie online for you to watch for free!

Thrill as Cap (Matt Salinger in a mask with rubber ears built in) battle the greatest villain of all of Italy (yes, Italy) -- the Red Skull (played by Scott Paulin).

Here's a snippet from the film's climax:

Series: Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, Incredible Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, Human Target, Aventures Extraordinaires d’Adele Blanc-Sec
