Deadline.com broke some major news this morning with a report that places Christopher Nolan, superstar director of 'The Dark Knight', in charge of rebooting and revitalizing Warner Bros. moribund 'Superman' franchise.

Nolan is most likely not directing the movie, but has been appointed the "godfather" of the franchise and will work behind the scenes to develop the story and get the character flying on the big screen once more. The movie would not be continuation of the Donner and Singer films, but rather a fresh start a la 'Batman Begins'.

DC Entertainment topper Diane Nelson has reportedly made it her mission to see the character back on the big screen with a story that is worthy of the franchise. There's a time pressure as well with the current legal wrangling over rights to the character which potentially will see the heirs of Jerome Siegel and the estate of co-creator Joe Shuster reclaiming in 2013 the rights to the character they created. Warner has time to get one or possibly two movies out while their ownership is of Superman is uncontested.

What do you think, Maniacs? Are you excited to see what a Nolan-driven Superman movie will look like? Post your comments below...
