KICK-ASS Movie Sells Books

Marvel has announced that sales on Mark Millar and John Romita Jr’s 'Kick-Ass' hardcover collection are high, thanks to this weekend's film. The print run is about to pass the 100,000 mark.

Millar, of course, has something to say about hitting the the landmark.

"The idea that a twenty-five dollar book has hit 100,000 sales in a little over a month is just insane. Especially when this doesn't count all the international orders or the trade paperback we have coming up," Millar said. "That's roughly ten times what Johnny and I were expecting and we would like to thank the comic-book retailers in America for their support of this book. This was not cheap and they took a gamble on us and I promise that Johnny will buy each and every one of them a drink at every convention he ever hits from now on."

LOBO Dead? HORNET Hated?

IESB.net is reporting that the 'Lobo' movie, trumpeted as being on the fast track late last year with Guy Ritchie directing, is nearly stalled. We already knew that Ritchie was pulled off task to work on a sequel to the highly successful (but not based on any graphic novel) 'Sherlock Holmes'.

The site reports that the real problem is that Warner Bros are running very cold on producer Akiva Goldsman. Goldsman has two comic-based movies coming out this summer: 'The Losers' and 'Jonah Hex'. The studio apparently isn't crazy about 'The Losers' even though audience reaction to the trailers seems to be very positive at the moment.

'Hex' underwent some eleventh-hour reshoots earlier this year with Goldsman collaborator Francis Lawrence sitting at the elbow of the film's director Jimmy Hayward. Reportedly they were there to film new script pages (rumored to be anywhere from 12 pages in the initial reports to 50 pages -- roughly half a movie, which seems highly unlikely -- in this new report).

According to IESB, all of this has the studio and DC Entertainment jerking the reigns on the 'Lobo' movie.

The same report indicates that Sony executives are not happy with Michel Gondry and Seth Rogen's take on 'The Green Hornet'. IESB claims that the film takes a campy tone and Sony insiders are calling it "a disaster". The film is due out in December.

Routh Not in WALKING DEAD After All?

On Monday a report broke that actor Brandon Routh had taken some unspecified role in the AMC TV series 'The Walking Dead', based on Robert Kirkman's comics.

Now, the Unofficial Brandon Routh page is claiming that the story is untrue. The author of that site says Routh is not joining the cast of the show.

Perhaps the source of the original rumor confused things with Routh's upcoming movie 'Dead of Night'.

Rourke Conjures IRON MAN 2 Grief from Dead Dog

He may be a big brute, but everyone knows that actor Mickey Rourke has a soft spot for his pets. In a 2009 interview, the actor credited his dogs with getting him past some of the darkest moments of his life.

So it should come as no surprise that, when getting into the emotional space needed to play the embittered villain in 'Iron Man 2', Rourke used his memories of his recently parted pets to conjure up tears. At least that's what Robert Downey Jr. told the Daily Express.

"He would have someone holding pictures of recently deceased pets off camera to make him feel sad or whatever for a scene," Downey is quoted as saying. "It was all serious stuff. I’ve never seen anything like it."

Hey, we're big pet lovers at C2F too. We don't judge.

Another SPIDER-MAN Contender?

IESB.net has thrown another name into the casting hat for Marc Webb's 'Spider-Man' reboot. According to their unnamed sources, Josh Hutcherson is another name on the short list to play Peter Parker in the film.

You may have seen Hutcherson recently in movies like 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' or 'Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant'. He's also apparently gotten good notices for his turn in the upcoming Sundance darling 'The Kids Are All Right' and will appear with Thor in 'Red Dawn'.

Hutcherson's representatives had not responded to IESB's inquiries at the time of the report.

IRON MAN 2 Post-Cred Scene Spoiled?

Among the coolness of the original 'Iron Man' and 'The Incredible Hulk' movies were the little endcaps that planted the seeds for the Marvel Universe on film and 'The Avengers' specially. The first movie saw Sam Jackson's Nick Fury approaching Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark about forming a team, whereas the second film saw Downey confronting William Hurt's General Ross.

Now fans are expecting such scenes and the Italian website BadTaste.it has confirmed that such a scene will run in 'Iron Man 2'. While they don't have explosive details about the scene they do report that it'll involve some expected characters from other Marvel movies. ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Toon in 2011

Promo for the ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN animated show arriving on Disney XD in 2011

Marvel has announced plans to develop yet another new animated show based on their flagship, web-slinging character. 'Ultimate Spider-Man' will be the third new cartoon featuring the adventures of Peter Parker since the feature film franchise exploded some nine years ago. The new series is set to debut on Disney XD in Fall 2011, which will put it closer to the release of the newly rebooted 'Spider-Man' movie franchise in 2012.

Marvel's press release states:

"Ultimate Spider-Man will be a unique journey exploring our favorite web-slinger as he teams up with other fan favorite Marvel Super Heroes in never before seen stories with a new life filled with great challenges, new friends, intense action and character growth," said Eric S. Rollman, President of Marvel Animation.

Along with his new powers, the challenge for the young web-slinger in the new series is balancing his relationships with his friends and family and his super colleagues who can help him gain an understanding of his parent's legacy and his destiny.

Based on the title and artwork, we'd have to say that the show will draw from the alternate reality comics of the same name written by Brian Michael Bendis.

Joss Whedon To Assemble Marvel's AVENGERS

IESB.net broke the news at the top of the month that Joss Whedon was a contender to direct Marvel's mega-movie 'The Avengers'. Although the story ran amid a flurry of bogus April Fools postings, IESB assured it's readers that the story was not a hoax.

Yesterday confirmation of the news came from multiple sources, first and foremost the typically reliable Deadline.com. That site reports that Marvel Studios are in final negotiations with Whedon to direct the movie.

Deadline lists Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Samuel L. Jackson among the actors starring in the movie, playing Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Nick Fury respectively. We also understand that Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hiddleston and Clark Gregg will be on hand as War Machine, Black Widow, Loki and SHIELD Agent Coulson. Nobody is saying for sure if Edward Norton will come into the fold as Bruce Banner or if his CG counterpart the Hulk will appear as previously expected.

Variety also confirms the news and also adds info that Whedon is now doing his director's polish on Zak Penn's script for the film.

'The Avengers' will assemble on the big screen on May 4, 2012 with Paramount pictures distributing. Whedon will likely start rolling cameras on the film early next year.
