Box Office: IRON MAN, LOSERS, KICK-ASS

'Iron Man 2' performed as expected, kicking off the summer blockbuster season and collecting $133.6 million in its opening weekend, according to the box office report elsewhere on Mania.com.  The movie claimed the #1 spot but did not topple opening frame of 'The Dark Knight' as some had hoped it would. So far the movie has collected $327.6 million worldwide, making it the #4 movie of 2010 thus far.

On the DC side, 'The Losers' is fading fast, falling three spots to #9. In addition to the Iron smack, 'Losers' also lost ground to 'Clash of the Titans' and 'Death at a Funeral'. It has earned almost $21.5 million against a $25 million budget in three weeks.

Finally, the much-hyped, but modest-performing 'Kick-Ass' has left the top 10 in its fourth week. The move also fell three spots to #11, pushed down by newcomers 'Iron Man 2' and 'Babies', and also losing ground against 'Death at a Funeral'. That movie's domestic take is over $45 million against a $30 million budget.

Could Mandarin Appear in IRON MAN 3?

Although both 'Iron Man' movies lay the groundwork for one of shell-head's ultimate villains The Mandarin to appear as a full blown super-villain (the guy who delivers the explosives to Vanko in part 2 is part of the 10 Rings clan), director Jon Favreau has expressed some trepidation about how an Asian guy in robes with 10 magic rings fits into the grounded sensibilities of his films.

Still, he told MTV Splash Page that the progression of Marvel movies may open the door to the Mandarin being realized as the primary villain in 'Iron Man 3'.

"I would like 'Iron Man 3' to pay it off, but there's so much I don't understand yet about what the world is going to be like then. You've got 'Thor,' 'Captain America,' 'Avengers' all happening with different directors before 'Iron Man 3' — and that's all going to affect 'Iron Man 3,'" Favreau said.

'Thor' of all those movies, with it's supernatural basis, could open the door to the mystical villain.

"You have to do The Mandarin," Favreau told MTV. "The problem with The Mandarin is, the way it's depicted in the comic books, you don't want to see that. He also has 10 magical rings, and it just doesn't feel right for our thing, so it's either tech-based or the rings are not really rings, but maybe with 'Thor' and all those others you'll introduce magic to that world and it won't seem so out of place."

What do you think, Maniacs? Should the Mandarin menace IRON MAN 3? What villain would you want to see?

MEN IN BLACK III is on!

Just before the weekend break, Columbia Pictures officially announced plans for 'Men In Black III'. The movie is set for a 3D release in the far off future of May 25, 2012. The franchise is based on the little-known comics by Lowell Cunningham which were shepherded to the big screen by Platinum Studios' Scott Mitchell Rosenberg.

Will Smith is confirmed to be returning to the role that cemented his reputation as a box office superstar. Columbia also claims to be in "advanced negotiations" with Tommy Lee Jones to return as Agent Kay. Josh Brolin is also said to be "in talks" to play young Agent Kay in the film.

Barry Sonnenfeld is returning as director. Etan Cohen has written the screenplay. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are returning as producers along with Sonnenfeld. Steven Spielberg is set to executive produce.

The movie will provide a one-two 3D punch for Sony/Columbia, who also has the new 'Spider-Man' coming out that summer.

In related news, Deadline.com says that Rick Baker is already at work on the movie designing and building creatures (as he's done for the previous films). They also report that Bo Welch has been designing the sets, and David Koepp is polishing a script by Etan Cohen.

Over at MTV Splash Page, Josh Brolin commented on the project, which he initially wanted to pass over.

"then they got more specific with the story, and I go, 'Yes, that's f---ing great!' This is a character where I feel like I can do some actual acting work within this franchise that everybody knows," Brolin said.

First Look: CONAN

Bulgarian site OperationKino.net has your first photos from the set of 'Conan'.

The movie is currently filming in Bistriza, Bulgaria with 'Friday the 13th' director Marcus Nispel behind the camera. Jason Momoa ('Stargate') is playing the titular Barbarian King. While the current photos only reveal a primitive looking village set, the site promises that they've scored some photos of Momoa in barbarian gear and will post those soon.

For now enjoy these images:
