How far would you go to defend your BUTTERFINGER®? Butterfinger and G4, the television network that covers the worlds of gaming, technology, animation, interactivity, and "geek culture,” announce a promotion to find the fourth member for the Butterfinger Defense League (BFDL). Two semi-finalists who best demonstrate an ability to ensure “Nobody’s Gonna Lay A Finger On My Butterfinger!” will win a VIP trip to Comic-Con International on July 21-25. The lucky semi-finalists will meet the current members of the Butterfinger Defense League, Erik Estrada, Lou Ferrigno and Charisma Carpenter, and G4’s “Attack of the Show!” hosts Olivia Munn and Kevin Pereira, during G4’s live coverage of the event.
Viewers are encouraged to submit an audition video for the Butterfinger Defense League Challenge video contest at G4tv.com/ButterfingerDefenseLeague, spotlighting a unique ability that would make them a great defender and a perfect fit for the BFDL. Submissions will be evaluated based on creativity, technical merit, and best use of a Butterfinger to determine who would best complement the existing members. The two finalists will head to Comic-Con, where “Attack of the Show!”’s Olivia and Kevin along with the BFDL members will crown one finalist an honorary member of the Butterfinger Defense League and award them a $20,000 grand prize.
“After unveiling the Butterfinger Defense League, we’re now giving consumers an opportunity to really get to know our defenders through an exclusive G4 promotion,” said Nestlé Confections & Snacks spokesperson Tricia Bowles. “Two lucky Butterfinger fans, not only will unite with Erik, Lou and Charisma, but they’ll also appear with them at the world’s largest pop culture convention, Comic-Con International.”
Estrada, Ferrigno and Carpenter, known in the TV world as famous defenders, have joined forces to help consumers defend their bars from would-be thieves and to encourage the “Nobody’s Gonna Lay A Finger On My Butterfinger!” tagline-turned-mantra. The celebrities formed the Butterfinger Defense League after connecting through the Butterfinger Bar Insurance program, where consumers reported more than 20,000 stories of Butterfinger thefts and filed 100,000 claims online for replacement candy bars.
“G4 is excited to team up with Butterfinger for this special promotion that gives our viewers the chance to win a VIP trip to Comic-Con and the grand prize of $20,000,” said Neal Tiles, president of G4. “’Attack of the Show!’ hosts Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn possess an irreverent brand of comedy that resonates with young guys. This promotion gives Butterfinger the opportunity to connect with this often hard to engage audience in a way that’s fun, clever and organic to the show.”
The Butterfinger Defense League Challenge video contest ends 11:59 p.m. PDT, 6/24/10, open to legal residents of the 50 US & DC, 18 or older, subject to full rules and entry requirements at G4tv.com/ButterfingerDefenseLeague.
Additionally, a retail promotion, “The Ultimate Comic-Con Experience courtesy of Butterfinger and G4,” will be promoted in 30,000 convenience and drug stores nationwide, driving consumers to ButterfingerDefenseLeague.com, where they can enter for a chance to win a trip and VIP experience at Comic-Con and other prizes. Olivia Munn and Kevin Pereira will be featured on the Butterfinger store displays across the country, no purchase necessary. Game ends 11:59 p.m. EDT, 6/30/10.
More information may be found online at ButterfingerDefenseLeague.com. Audition videos may be submitted at G4tv.com/ButterfingerDefenseLeague.
AMC's official Walking Dead blog presents a Q & A with Mr. Robert Kirkman about the show, based on the comics he created. Here's an excerpt:
Q: Are you finding things are being physically realized as you had imagined them?
A: Everyone is really trying to do good by the comic, and there are scenes that are straight out of it. I think that fans are just going to be thrilled. But at the same time, [Frank Darabont] is vastly improving the material. And there are things here and there that along the way I should have caught, but didn’t. There’s some amazing stuff he added for Morgan’s character in the Pilot episode that’s just not in the comic. It was back story, but he handles it in a way that just really brings it to the forefront. It’s like, Morgan, that guy is an awesome character!
Q: You commented last week about how psyched you were to see Andrew Lincoln portraying Rick –
A: I don’t see how anyone couldn’t see Rick. I don’t see how Andrew Lincoln’s wife, like 2 years ago, wasn’t like, “Oh Hey Rick, how ya doing?” This guy just eats, drinks and sleeps Rick Grimes. Steven Yeun, the actor playing Glenn, was on set for the first time yesterday. He walked over and said hello to Andrew Lincoln. They were chatting, and I looked over and I was like, “That’s Rick talking to Glenn!”

Nothing too spectacular, but if you must see some Transformers photos, there you go!

We've seen a number of blurry photos from the set of Conan of late, but Nu Boyan Film Studios have released the first official photo of actor Jason Momoa as the Barbarian King. Click the thumbnail at right for a larger view.
What do you think about Momoa now, Maniacs? Is he Robert E. Howard's Conqueror?

Deadline.com reports that Marvel is moving forward with development of a Doctor Strange movie. The studio has hired writers Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to pen the script for the film. The pair have comics cred with work on both Conan and Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, not to mention an early draft of Cowboys and Aliens.
If the project gains traction, it could represent Marvel's first project to completely unfold under the Disney umbrella. However, there have been attempts to bring the Sorcerer Supreme to the big screen for as long as C2F has been covering the beat so there's no telling if this one will move forward any more forcefully than the previous attempts. In the past year Strange is one of the most oft-cited pet projects of Marvel chief Kevin Feige.
Thanks to AntoBlueberry (who hopes Donnelly and Oppenheimer pay more attention to the comics than they did on Dylan Dog) for the submission.
Sony gathered journalists for a Q & A with Seth Rogen and Michel Gondry to help sell them on the Green Hornet movie, before presenting the trailer which appeared last night on Jimmy Kimmel and then on Yahoo! Movies. They also released some new stills from the movie.
If you want to know what Rogen and Gondry had to say about their movie, click over to Superhero Hype.
Any low-bandwidth Maniacs who would rather look at frame-grabs from the film than watch the trailer can find a whole bunch at Internapse.com.
C2F has been trying to keep an open mind about the movie and, frankly, we kinda like what we're seeing here. On the downside, the trailer does little to differentiate itself from action/music mashups of other action movies. On the upside we're starting to understand how this version of the Green Hornet will work, and how Rogen will fit into the role as a half redemption-seeking/half thrill-seeking would-be avenger who rides Kato's Kung Fu coattails.
We're still hoping this is the "safe" trailer, meant to go up the mainstream middle, and later looks will reveal more Gondry inventiveness.
What do you think, Maniacs? Are you warming up to GREEN HORNET yet? Or still holding your noses?
Thanks to AntoBlueberry and Internapse for the submission.
