J.J. Abrams' schedule just got a bit busier as he has yet another producing gig beyond numerous projects which includes Paramount's Star Trek sequel and Mission: Impossible IV. Heat Vision is reporting that he and his shingle Bad Robot have been tasked with overseeing an adaptation of Boilerplate, based on the period robotic tale “Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel."

Based on a story told by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett, eventually took on a life of its own when some people started believing the robot and its history to be true. The book was published last year by Abrams Image. The publisher is not related to the producer-director.

Plot Concept: "Boilerplate" purports to tell the story of the world’s first robot, who, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, fought alongside Teddy Roosevelt and Lawrence of Arabia, journeyed to the South Pole and was involved in the silent movie business before disappearing on the battlefields of World War I.
