ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Gets All-Star Crew

MTV Splash Page says that you can add Paul Dini to the list of names of people working on the new Ultimate Spider-Man toon show for Disney XD.

He'll join previously announced talent such as Brian Michael Bendis (on whose work the show is based), as well as the Man of Action crew of Duncan Rouleau, Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, and Steven T. Seagle (the guys who created Ben 10 and Generator Rex)

"Brian's work is a great part of the inspiration for the series, and the Man Of Action writers are going to handle the bulk of the episode scripting. Everything is going to be produced under the watchful eye of Jeph Loeb," Dini explained, citing Marvel's new head of TV.

Dini said the show is half derived from Bendis' comics of the same name, and half composed of entirely new stuff. He said fans can also expect the show to be a bit of Marvel Team-Up.

"We're going to be pairing him up with new and different Marvel characters. There's going to be a lot of guest-star action, and there's going to be a redefinition of Peter Parker within the Spider-Man world," Dini said, explaining that they're definitely out to make Peter Parker a modern teenager living in the 21st century and examining how today's world impacts the notion of "With great power comes great responsibility."

While they don't aim to rehash to big, classic storylines, Dini promises a show that will satisfy long-standing aficionados. "I think old-time fans will find what we've done with the character to be pretty good and thoughtful, because we're not out to junk-up Spider-Man. That's not our intent."

• Yesterday Pajiba.com floated a rumor that Quentin Tarantino was kinda/sorta/possibly/maybe gonna direct the film version of The Shadow. The rumor was quickly dispelled by MTV Splash Page who did a simple fact-check with Tarantino's representatives who said, "There is no truth to this story."
   
• Actor Alan Tyduk (Firefly/Serenity) described the character he plays in Transformers 3 to the From Hollywood With Luv blog. "John Turturro’s character, who has been in the other two movies, Agent Simmons. I’m a fellow agent of his that is sort of his assistant and weapons expert, computer hacker, cyber sleuth."
   
• Heat Vision confirms that Disney plans to let Tron director Joseph Kosinski adapt his Radical Press graphic-ish novel Oblivion for the big screen. Radical' Barry Levine is producing along with Kosinski. Radical's Jesse Berger is executive producer.
   
• Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson may not be in X-Men: First Class after all. While talking with Movieweb.com, producer Tarquin Pack said, "Don't believe everything you read in the papers about Aaron, unfortunately. Aaron's kind of busy, yeah." We think that means he's not in the movie. Right?
   
• From the set of I am Number Four, director D.J. Caruso talked about the stalled-out film version of Brian K. Vaughan's acclaimed comic Y: The Last Man. Caruso told MTV Splash Page that he's still loosely attached but has been battling the studio who wants to streamline the story to fit as much as they can into a single picture. Caruso favors a trilogy of films that would let the story breath as well as it does in the comics.
   
• Max Allan Collins told Movieweb.com that he and his filmmaking partners may be "right on the brink" of closing a deal to adapt his Road to Perdition sequel graphic novel Road to Purgatory into a feature film. Collins has written the screenplay but will not direct the movie as he'd previously hoped. He did reveal that the movie takes place 10 years after the ending of the first story.
   
• Chuck star Zachary Levi told IGN that recent rumors that he was up for, or auditioning for the role in Christopher Nolan's Superman movie are "complete fiction." Levi also said that he would love a shot at Supes, The Flash or any of a number of superhero roles. "I guess one of the things that I fear is that people pigeonhole me in the nerd role...I'm like, enough with the rumors already. Just let me be a superhero someday. I'd love to! I'm such a nerd about that stuff."
