In our continuing series of actors owning up to bad comic-book adaptation, Jamie Lee Curtis has come out to Contact Music against her 1999 Dark Horse Comics feature Virus.
"It was maybe the only time I've known something was just bad and there was nothing I could do about it," Curtis said. "I just do the best I can and there have been bad movies that have been wildly successful and great movies that have tanked, so you never know. It was an independent precursor to all of these Marvel comics movies. I thought maybe that fan base would show up for it, but no."
The film, based on Chuck Pfarrer's comic of the same name, focuses on an extra-terrestrial intelligence that arrives on earth and begins controlling machines with the intent of wiping the planet of the viral disease known as humanity. The movie also featured William Baldwin and Donald Sutherland. It was directed by James Cameron protege John Bruno, who has never directed a feature film again.
And in our 13 years of covering comic book adaptations we have to admit that Virus may, in fact, be the worst one. Yes, worse than Batman & Robin. With a poor script, bad acting and terrible special effects Virus couldn't even rise to any semblance of "so bad it's good." It's just banal and bad.
Or as Jamie Lee Curtis puts it: "That's a piece of s**t movie. It's an unbelievably bad movie; just bad from the bottom."
Latino Review brings a translated report from Fotograms.es that a new mutant has joined the cast of Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class.
According to the report, actor Álex González is in the movie playing the mutant called Riptide. The character was famously part of the mutant-killing Marauders team, who are lead by Mister Sinister.
The movie is currently filming in London with location filming happening throughout the world. It's due in theaters June 3rd of 2011.
In other First Class news, the Georgia website Jacksonville.com reports on locations being scouted in the Peach State. One primary location of interest is Jekyll Island. The advance crew for the film have been talking with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Jekyll Island Authority and other agencies on permits and other requirements for filming on the island.
Previous reports indicated that the crew was also interested in Tybee Island. All the interest in islands has us wondering if they may be looking for a stand-in for Muir Island, as we've heard that Dr. Moira MacTaggert is in the movie.
Reportedly the X-Men crew aims to begin filming in Georgia in October.

Not only does actor Edward Norton bear no ill-will towards Marvel over the decision not to keep him on as Bruce Banner in The Avengers or future Hulk movies, but he also told MTV Splash Page that he's totally cool with Mark Ruffalo as his replacement.
"Mark's one of my favorite actors and a very good pal of mine," Norton said to MTV. "We've already been laughing about it."
The pair also have ambitious plans to form some kind of project featuring a unique cast.
"We could get Lou [Ferrigno], Eric [Bana], me and Ruffalo," Norton laughed about his dream project.
Still there's one question remaining about the whole Ed Norton and Hulk equation. Whatever will MTV Splash Page talk about with Norton next time they interview him?
Collider has revealed a set of promotional posters from Smurfs, Spider-Man 3D and Men in Black III. Although the Smurfs posters utilize artwork from the now-filmed movie, the other two are just logo-centric images that may or may not reflect the ultimate design of the upcoming productions. Frankly we're hoping for a new look for Spidey, as the promo poster just continues the tired font work from the previous movies.
