Cops Crash TRANSFORMERS Set

Paramount and Dreamworks better impose some discipline on the Transformers 3 movie crew because they've just caused another accident, albiet much less catastrophic than the previous one.

CBSNews.com reports that a stunt driver working the yellow Bumblebee Chevy Camaro collided with a police SUV during the filming in Washington DC. The police cruiser, a K9 unit carrying an officer and a police dog, was speeding down Maryland Avenue, lights ablaze and sirens wailing, at the same moment that a driving scene was being filmed. Apparently there was not enough time to call "cut" or inform the stunt drivers that an unexpected vehicle was speeding through the scene.

Neither the stunt driver, the police officer or the canine officer were injured. This is the second vehicular accident that has occurred during the filming, with a previous incident dealing a catastrophic head injury to extra Gabriela Cedillo, leaving the woman paralyzed and unable to speak.

CBS News has great footage of the collision. We've also included a report from DC local station WUSA9 because we love the reaction of the first eyewitness on the reel:

Official: Rhys Ifans is SPIDER-MAN Villain (But Which One?)

Yesterday afternoon, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Columbia Pictures officially announced that actor Rhys Ifans will play the villain in the studio's Spider-Man reboot.

Columbia prexy Matt Tolmach said, "We have been very fortunate to attract some of the best actors working today to play the villains in the Spider-Man movies, and it is exciting to see that trend continue with Rhys Ifans.  After seeing his performance in our upcoming film Anonymous, we're in awe of his talent and think he's the perfect choice to take on this role."

Director Marc Webb agrees adding, "What sets the Spider-Man villains apart is the complexity of their relationships with Peter Parker.  Rhys' incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice for this character."

Notice that nobody is saying who the villain is exactly. Recent rumors from the oft-reliable Deadline.com has indicated that Venom is somehow in the mix however C2F feels that it's a bit soon to retry this character, especially considering it would link the fresh start to the terrible third movie in the Raimi cycle. If Webb wants to show fans something new, Ifans could be playing Kraven, Mysterio, Carnage, The Lizard, The Vulture, Electro or any number of cool Spidey villains.

Of course, while we'd prefer to see a new character, C2F thinks we can't rule out the arch-nemesis Green Goblin either. If Webb really is following Brian Michael Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man, then the Green Goblin story is inextricably linked to Spidey's at the origin level.

Ifnas will appear opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy. The film, to be directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and produced by Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin, will begin production in December and will be released in theaters nationwide in 3D on July 3, 2012.

What do you think, Maniacs? Are you fans of Ifans? What villain do you hope he's playing in SPIDER-MAN? Post your comments below.
