New Production Shingle Grows a TUMOR

Variety posts a bit detailing the founding of Red Crown Productions under exhibitor Daniel Crown and indie producer Daniela Taplin Lundberg. The producers will focus on "specialty projects" while eschewing tentpoles and franchises.

At the top of their slate is Joshua Hale Fialkov and Noel Tuazon's graphic novel Tumor, about a failed private detective who suffers from an inoperable brain tumor that causes time-bending hallucinations. Nightmare on Elm Street topper Sam Bayer is directing. Barry Josephson (who's Life as We Know It is currently #1 at the box office) is producing.

DEADPOOL Script Review

Cinemablend has a detailed review of the Deadpool screenplay by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The review sheds some light on the rumors about the movie from earlier in the week including the role Colossus plays and the manner in which the new movie detaches itself from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Here's an excerpt from the review:

The screenplay’s title page says it was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, but if Quentin Tarantino wrote a superhero movie, it would be a lot like this script for Deadpool. In its best moments, Deadpool is like reading Van Wilder meets Kill Bill, a genius mix of insane dark comedy and ridiculous over the top violence the likes of which we’ve never seen in any other superhero movie before.

Aronofsky Closer to WOLVERINE 2

Deadline.com is reporting the director Darren Aronofsky has cleared his schedule allowing him to direct X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 for 20th Century Fox.

The director had been eyeballing Gangster Squad with Warner Bros but now he's said to be in negotiations with Fox to sign on for Hugh Jackman's latest mutant outing. Having worked for small pay checks on The Wrestler and Black Swan, Aronofsky is looking to make $5 million against 5% of the gross on Wolverine 2. The studio is said to be working hard to sign the deal, but the terms are still being worked on.

Jackman and Aronofsky previously teamed on The Fountain.

While the last two X-Men movies have left a bad taste in the collective mouth of fandom, word is that Christopher McQuarrie's script (focusing on Logan's Japan/Samurai days) is a winner. With a visionary director like Aronofsky on board this could mean a new X-Men movie that stands up to other great superhero flicks.

What do you think, Maniacs? Do you like Aronofsky as the director of WOLVERINE 2? Is this shaping up to be a winner? Post your comments below...
