What They Say
With Ivankov's help, Luffy now struggles to make his way back out of Impel Down in order to prevent the execution of his brother Ace. All the prisoners will have to work together if they ever hope to get past the dangerous Warden Magellan. But will an earth-shattering proclamation by the World Government turn everything upside down?

The Review!
As Luffy and his group make their way through Level 4 of Impel Down, Blackbeard and his group appear at the entrance and begin making trouble. The former Jailer, Shiryu of the Rain, is released from Level 6 in order to quell the riots, but his bloodlust quickly turns upon the guards, and the jailer beasts reappear only to be quickly silenced by Luffy, Crocodile, and Jimbei. After a quick bout with the under warden, Luffy comes face to face with Blackbeard for the first time since Jaya. Though they exchange a handful of blows, they each realize they have more important matters to attend to and leave each other be.

From there, Luffy and the prisoners work their way up the prison, only to be confronted by the formidable Magellan at Level 1. With the help of Mr. 3’s powers, Luffy manages to fight Magellan on equal footing. However, Magellan’s full force proves too much for even their combined powers to handle, and the group is forced to flee. Luckily, with Jimbei’s aid they are able to secure a battleship and make it away from the prison, leaving Magellan behind. Unfortunately, in order to allow the group passage through the gates of justice, Bon Clay sacrifices himself and stays behind in Impel Down.

As the volume comes to a close, Ace is escorted to the Navy Headquarters at Marineford, Blackbeard recruits Shiryu, we learn that Ace is actually Gold Roger’s son, and the Whitebeard pirates arrive to rescue Ace.

In Summary:
This volume certainly has a lot to love, with an intense conclusion to the events and Impel Down, and the set-up of a monumental battle between massive powers. Sprinkle in key revelations about Ace, the insane battle techniques of Ivankov, and the touching friendship shown by Bon Clay, and you have a very interesting book. Though the battle with Magellan was unfortunately a bit inconclusive, this volume still makes for a good read. Hopefully the coming battle will manage to be every bit as exciting as the content presented here.
