What They Say
Having made the decision to secretly join Iga’s Grey Wolves, Miharu begins life as a member of the enemy ranks! Under the pretext of accepting an invitation from the long-hidden Kouga village to participate in an intellectual exchange among residents of the Nabari world, the apathetic vessel of the Shinra Banshou sets out with his new allies to steal Kouga’s forbidden art scroll. But Iga is not the only shinobi village to whom the clever Kouga have opened their doors! Banten and Fuuma have also sent shinobi to the conference, and all those present—especially the Kouga—have their own interests to serve!

The Review!
Contents

Miharu sticks with the decision he made at the end of the last volume: to join the Grey Wolves. His arrival at their branch office is met with sceptic eyes by the ninja in attendance. The Grey Wolves aren’t as malicious as they first appear though, and soon he’s comfortably eating and talking with them as they draw him into their group.

Meanwhile, Yoite goes from stoic to outwardly depressed and ill as his kira powers take a toll on his body. Miharu grows further concerned for him without understanding his own feelings.

Both the Grey Wolves and Fuuma receive invitations from the mysterious and long hidden Kouga ninja clan for a student seminar. The Fuuma clan enlists Tobari and his group to attend, while the Grey Wolves send Yukimi, Raikou, Miharu and Yoite. Both groups see this as their opportunity to claim the Kouga scroll.

What neither group realizes is that Kouga is currently having problems of their own. An internal power struggle is leading to the deaths of students in their private academy. Of course, they also want to get their hands on the Shinra Banshou.

With all of these shinobi running around as students leading double lives I’m surprised that more people haven’t caught on. Tobari is yelled at early in the volume for running a club he lets no new members in to. For a bunch of ninjas, everyone seems to be really lousy at maintaining their secret identities.

It doesn’t take long for the visiting groups to give up their pretenses of a nice scholarly gathering and attempt to make their move for the Kouga scroll. Kouga makes the first move, and leaves everyone scrambling to fight back against a bunch of teenage ninja. Miharu finds himself trying to protect Yoite during the confrontation, but is backed into a corner by the creepy and mysterious Shijima.

The first printing of this volume contains a color lead page.

In Summary
Events are still moving forward at a brisk pace in Nabari no Ou, even without a major revelation in this volume. The pacing seems to have evened out and the humor is blended into the action more skillfully. The last quarter of the volume consists of one long action scene with three different ninja groups colliding once again. Yoite continues to succumb to his powers while Miharu finds himself drawn ever closer to Yoite. Business as usual, even if time is running out for Miharu to gain control of the Shinra Banshou.
