Despite conflicting reports as to whether General Zod would even be in Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot of Superman, there's a report out of the Hollywood Reporter that says Viggo Mortensen is being eyed to play the iconic villain. This latest bit of news comes just a week after it was revealed that Kevin Costner was being eyed towards the role of Jonathan "Pa" Kent in the fast-tracking Warner Bros. Pictures production. It should also be noted that the trade is playing on shaky ground here, with the only confirmed casting addition being Henry Cavill as the title character.
Mortensen and Costner are both considered just "persons of interest" for producer Christopher Nolan and director Snyder, with other names also being on the contention list for both Zod and Kent. The search is also on for three female parts as well though the trade and studio have been quiet on the roles or which actresses have been leading the casting process.
Viggo has also been recently cast in Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman so there's a question as to his availability or whether the two studios work work around each other so he can play both parts. Whatever the case, Warner Bros. Pictures has yet to comment officially on the Costner and Mortensen rumors but you can expect some official press releases out of the studio soon as production is scheduled to roll in hopes of having it in theaters by December 2012.
