8.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Japan (Mania.com)

At 2:46 PM JST on Friday, an 8.9 magnitude earthquake struck the country which generated at least a 13 foot tsunami in the area which is now rolling out to more of the pacific basin. The offshore quake was followed by at least 19 aftershocks according to the latest report and  most of them of were more than magnitude 6.0. According to the AP, dozens of cities and villages along a 1,300-mile stretch of coastline were shaken by violent tremors that reached as far away as Tokyo, hundreds of miles (kilometers) from the epicenter.
